“Fantastic Lunch”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

My wife and I took a day trip to Winchester and found ourselves at the Old Vine Inn around noon, the dining room was inviting with a warm fire. The wine list was outstanding and ell thought out, we had a great French sparkling rose. The starter was the Smoked Mackerel pate, it was so rich and well made. My wife had the Pear and Blu cheese salad and I had the Leek taste, they were beautiful all the greens and vegetables were really fresh and the flavors excellent.
We had such a great time we have booked a weekend at the Inn.

Thank you for the review, I'm delighted to see that you enjoyed your lunch with us. You chose well! The leek tart, pear salad and smoked mackerel pate are all firm favourites with our regular guests, and the rose is a really beautiful sparkling wine from an estate managed by the esteemed champagne house Bollinger. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Old Vine to stay in the inn

Excellent small hotel, charming very lively restaurant, good food and good value for money. Very welcoming staff. Difficult to find a place to park nearby, but still highly
recommendable. Would definitely stop by again.

Dear guest, thanks for your feedback, I'm pleased to see you had an enjoyable stay with us. We offer our guests complimentary permits to park in the permit-only bays situated in three streets close to the Old Vine. It's true that parking in central Winchester is limited, and we can't guarantee parking with the permits we supply, but for most of our guests this system works well. Should an on-street space not be available there are two public car parks close by, which are free between 6pm and 8am, and all day Sunday. Once again, thanks for taking the time to post a review

We walked in without a booking and despite the restaurant being quite busy were quickly given a table. The menu was interesting with some great variations on old favourites and the wine list was excellent. My starter was one of the best I have had in some time-pan fried chorizo and potatas bravas hmmmmmmmm
Would recommend a visit to anyone who enjoys good food. We did not stay at the Old Vine.

The chorizo starter is a delicious dish! Personally I think it's the addition of the smoked tomato chutney that really makes it - we're lucky enough to have a local catering firm who make this lovely product for us. Glad you enjoyed your visit.

We booked a bit late for Valentines evening but wanted to eat in Winchester and enjoy the lovely Everyman cinema nearby. The person who took our phone call took his time to look at his bookings and accommodate us and am very glad that he did. We had a nice table ready for us, service was great and the food divine. A new found place to eat for us - we shall be back!

Room Tip: Parking in nearby Colebrook Street by the cathedral is free after 6pm :-)

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad we could accommodate you on Valentine's evening and that you enjoyed our style of hospitality. Great tip for parking, by the way - parking in Winchester without a permit is not easy! In fact all public car parks are free in Winchester after 6pm, and all day on Sunday.

We stayed for 2 nights and the staff were great, nothing was too much trouble and all done with a smile. We stayed in the Design Suite right at the top of the pub and whilst you had to climb stairs it was worth the effort. Breakfast was excellent as was the food lunchtime and evenings. Very central location but only street parking, which was not an issue for us.

Very pleased to see you enjoyed your stay. The Design House suite is right at the top of the building, and does require quite a climb to reach it - but the view of the cathedral once you get there is worth it!. Thanks for your comments.

We had a bad experience in November at this restaurant and complained. The management took the time to investigate and contact us which we appreciated. We were persuaded to return and did so on Saturday 27th Jan. Our experience this time was extremely positive with both the food and service excellent. We will no doubt return again when visiting Winchester in the future.

Came here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. The place was packed, but a lovely member of staff came to us immediately offering us a table. The food was delicious and the service was quick. The staff here are fantastic! I will come here again. It's a great setting, great food and the champagne is wonderful too.

I'm glad you enjoyed your visit, and that the staff made you feel welcome. At £7 a glass the champagne is a bargain - Ayala Brut Majeur NV. We hope to welcome you back in the future.
