“Don't bother”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

Although the room was booked through a Internet booking co so we didn't pay full price, the receptionist when we called for directions as sat Nav couldn't pin point location, didn't know the name of the services or exact junction to take! It will cost you around £60 in a taxi to get back from Winchester too, as you have to go north on M3 to come back south around an extra 20+ miles. Rats running in the car park. Rooms are clean and basic so guess you get what you pay for. Suggest finding a Travel lodge.

Overnight stop on the 10th Feb. Booked through Superbreak for the bargain price of £20 for a family room! The room was clean and had plenty of room for the four of us, bed was a bit soft and the bathroom could do with a bit of TLC but it was fine for a stopover.

The free wifi worked well and was a nice bonus.

The area outside had been recently pruned back, we didn't see any rats!

Room Tip: Family rooms are all on the ground floor.

Only stayed one night while traveling to South West, basic room but was clean, only 3 sockets, one had tv plugged in, another had kettle plugged in and hair dryer, need more sockets.
Bathroom does need attention, chipped bath, stained surface around sink, under taps were caked in dirt and grime and they constantly dripped. Wall tiles and grout needs a good clean or re-grout. Generally tired. I booked the room with a special offer, would not have paid the normal rack rack.
By the way, watch out for the rats around the garden areas, there were a few of them.
Don't bother going to the service area next door for breakfast, vastly over priced for what they call breakfast.

Got there quite late about !!pm but still very courteously welcomed by the receptionist. Could have checked in 24 hours so no pressure to get there. Room very large, lovely and warm; comfortable bed and very clean. Very quiet and a good nights sleep. Nice breakfast in Costa at the adjacent services. Right on motorway services so really convenient location. also free wifi. We paid £40 so amazing value for money

Room Tip: A room facing away from the motorway is quieter

Stayed at this hotel on its opening night ( it was stil a premier inn)about 12 years ago when it was all shiny and new. Now itS getting very worn and tatty. Bedroom carpets and bathrooms very stained and worn, curtainrail hanging off wall. Needs a refit badly.

You have to put this into context - I paid £25 a night for a family (double plus single bed) room. More than enough room to play a hockey match between the Dagenham Girl Pipers and the Coldstream Guards and host the post match party.

Good: Roomy, clean, comfortable. Big desk to work at. Quiet. Amazingly so. Free Wifi. Free newspaper!

Iffy: Blob of paint on the bathroom floor. Oily stain on the carpet. Woodwork round the bath rotting a bit because the shower curtain doesn't contain the water. But, hey, I've paid many times more for far worse.

Poor/Bad: On site services - Burger King, Costa, Eat & Drink Co and W H Smiths. If the chains are worst in class, then these branches are worst in chain. Really awful. Depending how you play it, there is a Sainsbury's one junction north and a Tesco one junction south, both of whom can knock the offerings on this site into a cocked hat. The biggest problem is the neighbours. Inside it's quiet enough, unless you get particularly hamfisted / argumentative / passionate visitors in the next room, in which case you may need to take ear plugs. Outside, there are rats. Lots of them and not timid. The place is well baited, but until the rest of the site managers remove the obvious source of food, Roland and his mates are here to stay. But then you're rarely more than six feet away from a rat in the UK - it's just that you don't often see them dancing on the lawn in front of you!

Overall: Yeah, why not. I've been here all week and its quite OK. Very comfortable, quite and roomy. You just have to organise yourself a little bit, but view it as an apartment - you have to sort your own food & bev. Just don't let your kids play outside.

First things first, I think it is important to remember just how inexpensive these rooms are. I paid £49 for a double room for one night. When you then throw in the free wifi( normally charged elsewhere at around £10-15) then you are getting a great bargain. The rooms are well furnished with big comfy beds, hanging space for clothes and tea/coffee to boot. My shower had lots of hot water and a nice power to it. Parking as it is at all Days inn hotels is free( register at reception). I had no problems with noise, external or internal. I think the hotel was pretty full as well.

The staff are very attentive and I wouldn't normally single someone out but Sara on reception ( a trainee I think her badge said) was so welcoming and charming. After a 3 hour drive, a genuine smile is always better than a stony faced jobsworth and she did a great job of checking in me and explaining everything.

As with any hotel at services, you rely on the adjoining facilities for food. This sadly is where the Days inn is let down by its parent company. A choice of Burger King, Costa Coffee or Moto cafe. I know you're never going to get haute cuisine but lets hope Welcome Break throw in a Waitrose or the like for something a little healthier..

That aside and this review is really for the hotel. Yes I would easily recommend this to people and yes I would happily rebook for business when again in the area. I will bring a packed lunch though!!
