“Just where was the rest of the meal?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2014

The coffee here was amazing... just delicious!

However, the remainder of the eating experience wasn't so great. The atmosphere was a little tinny and the space, whilst full of people, felt to like a void.

We had to wait for a long time - 20 minutes or so - for 5 pulled pork brioche buns. Given the wait and the price, we were eagerly anticipating a plate full of food so when a smallish bun arrived on a wooden rectangle with some rocket, disappointment inevitably set in.

Whilst the pork tasted fantastic and the red cabbage and apple chutney were tasty, the actual serving size was paltry and extremely disappointing. At over £7 each, there was barely enough pork to cover the base of the bun leaving everyone feeling that whilst the quality of the food was commendable, the quantity, when judged against the price, was dismal.

The day was saved a little by the outstanding chocolate brownies which were surprisingly reasonably priced.

Overall, though, the £60 bill for 5 of us did not reflect good value for money in terms of the quantity of food served up to us and I don't think we will be returning.

“Great coffee, average food bad acoustics.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

This is the best place to go if you want a different cup of coffee, I have my coffee straight with no milk so I can really taste the difference. They have a great choice of very different coffees from all over the world. I forget what I had but it was delicious and quite different to my usual favourite Illy blend. I didn't try the wine but had a sandwich that was OK. The atmosphere is buzzy but the acoustics are not great, very echoey and therefore difficult to have a quiet chat. I can imagine if you have a few kids in here it could get really tedious on the eardrums!
Perhaps someone might look at what can be done to soften the acoustics. A definite 5 stars for the coffee but 3 stars for food, so 4 stars overall. Recommend going just for the coffee though if you want to try something a little different to your usual blend.

“50 shades of averageness”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

As much as I love rugby and Chris Robshaw's valiant captainship of England not even he could help raise the dismal performance here. The cafe/brasserie is modern looking and vibrant, a little stark, but that goes with the territory. The place is very echoey so it's a hard place to chat in. The wine we choose was excellent, a pinotage, perfect plumy and chocolatey. We ordered our Asian tapas with great anticipation the menu made them sound exciting and daring! An hour and 20 mins later, they arrived. Even though we were so hungry we could have bitten our arms off, the food was a bit of a disappointment, a bit bland bar the abergine dip. The scallops were undercooked and fishy tasting. We were all a bit stunned, service was intermittent and uninterested. Perhaps this is much more of a day time cafe, than a night time venue! But for me it I'm afraid it's a definite no. Sorry Chris.

“Great in part. Poor in others”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2014

Dropped in yesterday for the first time for a pre theatre snack.

Decor is smart but has a high echo factor due to glass and steel finish.

Coffee was delicious and cheese and bacon sandwich very tasty but pricy.. Interesting menu. However they forgot about my wife's order of a slice of bread and when it did come there was no butter. They should serve so that everything arrives together.
Gents loo was poor. Broken mirror and paper tissues (yes tissues not towels) in overflowing bin.

They need to try harder
