My wife and i stayed at the winchester spa hotel for 2 nights on 4th May 2013 , the hotel is based very conveniently for exploring the city.

the hotel is based a pleasant 5 -10 minute walk from the heart of the city .

the hotel was very nice indeed, we had a gorgeous room on the 1st floor (119) which had a patio door as well as a window , a nice bed , large flat screen t.v. a safe and a large bathroom with a powerful shower.

the restaurant was excellent with a lovely menu with 3 courses for £23 for dinner , and it was superb , washed down with a great choice of wines!!! the breakfast was also superb.

the snacks available in the bar all day were very good value for money , and the lounge bar area had a lovely setting /ambience with a grand piano playing all by it's self ! quite unique i thought. They have a lovely outside terrace area which was a sun trap in the lovely weather over this weekend.

the spa i used on 2 occasions during our stay and was very scrumptious and spotless throughout , there were lovely relaxing loungers dotted around the pool and a sauna and steam room , plus a jaqussi.

the staff were all very helpful and pleasant , and were genuinely interested in making our stay pleasant.

Just to confirm my comment of above we received a lovely thank you email from the General Manager on our return home this afternoon , this to me ratify's that the whole team at the Winchester Spa Hotel are geared towards ensuring a completely satisfied guest experience..

we do not hesitate to recommend this place for a stay in Winchester.

This is a very nice Hotel, rooms are comfortable with giant beds! The new outside terrace bar looks nice and is about to open anytime now. We never had an issue with the car park but you can see why there can be a problem and perhaps they should reserve spaces for guests only rather than people coming for meetings. We were staying on a deal that included an evening meal and I would say this was disappointing, The quality of the food and the presentation was not good. Breakfast was self service and cold.
The bar area is very nice but expensive
The staff were very friendly apart from the gym/spar area where they seemed to lack people skills.
Overall if you are in this area, worth a stay.

Room Tip: Avoid near the car park

After our overnight stay I would have liked to be giving this hotel an "excellent" rating, as the room was clean and comfortable, the staff welcoming and helpful, and the food at dinner and breakfast first class. In fact, I could rate our evening meal as one of the best I have enjoyed - presentation and service matched the very high standard of the cuisine. However, in the morning after my shower (which varied between far too hot and rather cold as, I believe, other users of the water supply turned their taps on and off) the hot water supply vanished completely, never to return. My wife had to wash in cold water! The problem was reported, but no explanation was forthcoming and no apology received.
I hope other guests will not have their experience of what seems to be a very well managed hotel marred in this way.

This was a nice hotel. Room was a good size and very comfortable. I had a meal at the restuarant which was very nice, all in all a comfortable stay. The hotel is a two minute walk from the city centre, so very well placed. I did not have breakfast at the hotel so can not comment on this.

We have stayed here a number of times and each time have enjoyed our stay. Hotel is close enough to the main town centre to park in the free car park and walk. The restaurant was lovely both for lunch and a decent dinner. It did not have a huge menu but there were enough choices we both struggled to decide what we wanted to try and it did not disappoint. This hotel also does great deals regularly. Check their website. Enjoy your stay. One point removed as the spa area was closed for refurbishment when we were there but we were not told in advance even though we booked months in advance.

Room Tip: Some rooms are quite a walk away from the lift bank. If this is going to be an issue for you just me...

Stayed here on a Heritage weekend break, D,B&B.
Was most impressed by the excellent location just
above the city centre & the quality of the food.
The Hotel is perched onto a large council coach
& car park. Try to get an upper room therefore.
The ceiling on our ground floor room needs insulating.
The wines on offer are a bit overpriced but the food, at
a basic £23.50 for 3 courses (with suppliments if req'd.)
is well worth it. Just those few niggles... far outweighed by
a brilliant break.

Room Tip: up & away from the attached car park would be best

Booked in here for our anniversary. I work in Winchester and normally stay in more humble lodgings so this was definitely a step up!
The staff were very friendly and helpful and the service from them was great overall, checking in and out was fast and efficient. The room itself was comfortable, clean and nicely appointed. The bathroom was fresh and clean.
Bottled water, tea and coffee were provided. The view from the window was pretty much non-existent but to be honest that wasn't really the point of the stay! All the rooms and public areas have wifi, which was reliable and fast.
Breakfast was buffet style and had a good choice of both hot and cold food, including full english, porridge and fruit.

We did not try the Spa but from what we could see it looked very good and included all of the usual suspects which one would expect to find.
The hotel itself is very centrally located with the city centre just 5 minute walk away really so that is no problem even if you are not that athletically minded! It has very good road links as well from both the M3 and the M4.

Being a city-centre hotel it's very much I think fulfilling a "jack of all trades" role, for both leisure and business travellers and I would say it does that very well. It doesn't perhaps have quite the character of other hotels being perhaps more of a high quality business hotel suited to holiday traffic by virtue of it's location, and facilities but to be honest given it's overall impression, it's location and convenience, and the friendliness of it's staff, coupled with a perfectly decent room that is good value for money - it would be churlish to single that out as a failing.

Overall we would definitely recommend and would definitely stay there again.
