“sit there and watch the world go by”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2013

situated on the main street of Winchester, now mostly pedestrianised, the butter cross is where farmers originally sold their wares in old Winchester. Close by is the Pentice, the covered walkway, unique to Winchester and through the arch is the Winchester museum and cathedral. Take in the pasty shops as well, a good place for lunch

“Hear the buskers”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

This is just a statue surrounded a stone throw from Cathedral, most weekend sees the buskers perform here, A favourite place for students who use the steps to sit and take lunch

“A monument that deserves a second look”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

Whilst at first glance this looks like a statue like many others, look
carefully and you will see the differing characters around it. Particularly recommended is to go here when the Hat Fair is on and take full advantage of the free, fun and fabulous entertainment.

“A focal point”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

Although not entirely original the Buttercross is the visual meeting point in the city rivalling with King Alfred's statue. To make it even more appealing they should prevent young people to climb it to picnic and leave the leftovers to be cleaned by the local dustmen at our expense.

“It's right there”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2013

If you're in the town center of Winchester, you'll see the Butter Cross. Take time to read the info about it on the wall next to it.
