“A lot squeezed”

The Royal Hampshire Regiment Museum
Ranked #35 of 71 things to do in Winchester
Attraction details

I think this museum has been limited by the lack of space, a lot has been squeezed in, which leaves it a little disjointed. That said it is free and try's to present as much as possible of the history of the now gone Hampshire Regiment which is commendable. I would suggest it is visited as part of Winchester Military Museums rather than a stand alone visit. I grade it as very good as it is free and it clearly try's to retain a part of Hampshire History.

Another slightly pokey regimental museum which feels as if the collection is just a random assortment of items shoved together. It needs more space and more order.

A small but pleasant museum giving a good insight into the History of the old Regiment. The Staff were very helpful and knowledgeable and it made the visit worthwhile for me as my Grandfather served in the Regiment during the First World War.

It's very conveniently situated close to the town centre. The building is imposing both inside and outside. The exhibits are well laid out and labelled and the staff are very helpful.

In this day and age where you have to pay for everywhere you go in ,especially Cathedrals, what a refreshing change somewhere to be free!

There are a few souvenirs to buy as well.

Lots to read in a small museum even if you are not interested in military you can learn all sorts of things through looking at the exhibits.

One small point , it is not with the other 4 museums, it is on Southgate Street which is just off the High Street.
