Owner description: One of Winchester's five superb Military Museums telling the story of 250 years of campaigning for peace by The Royal Green Jackets and their former regiments, the 43rd and 52nd (The Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry), the 60th (The King's Royal Rifle Corps) and the 95th Rifles (The Rifle Brigade). An outstanding collection of uniforms, weapons, silver, paintings and medals set over two floors. The exhibition on the first floor, entitled 'With the Rifles to Waterloo', opened in 2015 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo. The centrepiece of the exhibition is the 25 square metre model of the battle with light and sound commentary. The museum is situated in Peninsula Square, formerly the barracks and the home of the Rifle Depot.

Tells the history of the Regiment and it's antecedents very well.
Every time I have visited, the desk staff have been very helpful with extra information when requested. Always worth a revisit.

Military museums are always excellent value for money and this is no exception. Just get talking to the volunteers who staff this museum - ex-serving members of the regiment, so they are full of anecdotes and knowledge. A highlight is the diorama of the Battle of Waterloo which has a seven minute commentary. Lights come on and off during the commentary highlighting the various areas of the battle. There's also a great deal about the Rifles, so Sharpe fans will be highly entertained. How they put so much into so small a place is a revelation. I have no hesitation in recommending this museum. There's a small shop with various mementos plus some pocket-money toys for the kids.

The model of the Waterloo battlefield was amazing. Really bought the scene to life with the commentary. Didn't realise how many people were involved in the batlle. Plenty of pictorial history of this regiment right up to the present day. Although there is a lot of reading, younger visitors are also well catered for

GO see it, the best museum on a Regiment in the country. More VC's than anyone else. Diarama absolutely the best seen. Took my Italian Grand daughter to see it. She was absolutely dumbfounded. First class, make sure you visit. Sign a tax form and get free entry for a year. Definitely worth a visit, you won't be disappointed. 100 out of a 100.

By far the best military museum in Winchester......the exhibits are second to none and the Waterloo model and commentary is worth the admission on its own.........
