“An eye opener”

This museum is hidden away over the road from the garden at the back of the great hall at the top of Winchester. The staff are really friendly and the museum is very informative and well set out. There is so much to learn and I think it is fair to say that many people will not realise quite how much the Gurkhas have done, - this museum is really interesting and a real eye opener.
There were quite a few visual displays and diaramas to entertain our children of 8 and 4, but there is a lot to read, and probably better for adults and teenagers who have an interest in military history. We spent some time there, but if you read, listen and take in everything there is in this museum you'll spend a good few hours there.
The gift shop is understated and tasteful - none of the usual rubbish you get in most gift shops. There is also a good selection of books.
We ended up going to this museum by acciden, but glad we did - it needs to be more obviously advertised.

A museum that brings back a lot of memories when I served with these soldiers. Please go and see this museum at Penninsula Barracks. You won't be disappointed. The staff are the friendiest you will encounter. Well worth a visit whether in Winchester or not

I with several friends visited Peninsula Barracks, on Tuesday29th January 2013..
It left us with appreciative memories of what the Gurkha Regiments have done in service to the United Kingdom past and present.
A wonderful easy to follow well informed guided tour with staff on hand to give further information. regimental honours, battles as well as individual stories of heroism resulting in numerous Victoria Cross's, I think 24, plus many other warranted gallantry awards, with relevant stories.
I'm fortunate to have had an uncle serve as Major in the Gurkha Regiment, so the visit was all the more poignant .
