This is a TERRIFIC day out, for all ages.

Yes, Friday in Easter hols it was busy and queueing was 15 mins or so. Justifiably popular but no queue 'entertainment' or distraction for excited children near us.

Value for money - you could be there for hours - we were kicked out after 6 hours at closing time - is very good. 1 a, 2 c was £19.80, I then spent £42 on an annual ticket as we'll go back more than 2 x in next year, now that we have found it! ( I have F14 and M10 and to get a day out that both enjoy is such a thrill!)

Variety of activities is huge. We could never try them all out on first visit, son spent HOURS on the sprint track (beware hurts the next day).

Take a picnic, plenty of space even on a wet day but lots of space if you can sit out.

£2.20 each extra for planetarium shows - we chose a 'live' rather than a film, it was very enjoyable.( Half price now with annual ticket)

A few others have mentioned inattentive parents - yes children will run around like headless chickens, it is such fun and hard to herd if you've 2 or more. But better than couch potatoing with ipads isn't it?

Took our two young grandchildren (boy 12 and girl 10) to this attraction on Sunday. Good parking area. Lots of hands on exhibits all with information to impart, we could all enjoy these. Both children particulary enjoyed the science of sport section and the wheelchair basketball proved especially popular and made them both aware of the problems that wheelchair athletes face. The lectures on bubbles and cosmic chemistry were both fun and informative. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The indoor and outdoor picnic areas were a bonus as the cafe food there was somewhat expensive. All in all a great day out for all ages!

Reply forwarded from the INTECH Science Centre & Planetarium Director:

Thank you so very much for taking the time to visit and also for posting up such a useful comment. The Science Centre is reviewing its cafe offer as a result with a new menu for the Easter Holidays.

We attempted to go to Intech a few weeks ago. It was bitterly cold and after waiting in a very long queue outside for 15 minutes and not getting any closer, we decided to call it a day and go elsewhere. This time we turned up and were allowed in because a a car had just left, but the people behind us were turned away. It was incredibly busy and perhaps could be elivated by having to pre-book, so that people aren't disappointed when they are turned away.
It is quite expensive and the planetarium shows are extra. The activities are varied - some very good, for others it is sometimes difficult to see the point. Our children aged 8 and 4 were happy to play with the different games, gadgets and tests etc but even they became frustrated with the behaviour of some of the other children in there. We became equally frustrated with the lack of parenting. It would be nice to see a few more staff around and about to manage the space, and ensure a little fairness is undertaken. I have seen other reviews which have made comments to this nature, and it is certainly an issue. It is not enough to suggest people visit during school hours when it is quieter, since most people who visit will have children who are actually in school at that time. I guess the only sensible suggestion would be to go on a nice sunny day when everyone else has gone to the beach, or to go late in the day.
The Panetarium show was very good. It was the live show, in which you are taught to identify various stars etc. This was really informative and the staff member who did the show was really good with his audience.
In terms of practical issues -the toilets were rather unpleasent and I am not certain they were checked througout the day. It was quite good to have pegs for coats so that you don't have to lug them around (leave at your own risk though)
There is an outside picnic area which was too cold to use, but also an indoor picnic area where snacks were available to purchase. This was quite a mucky space. We opted insted to eat in the upstairs cafe, which was clean, but had very little choice of food. We went to the cafe at 2.30 and they had already stopped serving the few items of hot food on the menu. So, you could not even get beans on toast. There were a few people who were caught out by this, since the signage did not indicate that they would be or had stopped serving hot food.
Overall, a good place for learning about science, and especially star gazing, though not a good place for learning fairness and manners.

This is a great place to entertain the children and actually the adults quite like it as well. Lots and lots of hands on experiments to keep every one busy. Picnic area to allow you to take your own food, with cafe as well if you would like to eat there. Well worth a visit
