“Lovely Hotel, Beautiful Setting, very standard room”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 17, 2013

I've stayed at this hotel before for 5 nights and have to say the family room was in tip top condition however this time we were left disappointed, room 106 had a window hanging on one hinge! a dirty bathroom sink, no room service menu and the bunk beds had loose wood slats holding them together. That said the double bed was incredibly comfortable. The bar staff provided excellent service and food was good, we ate dinner in the bar and enjoyed a varied breakfast menu.. I think we were unfortunate with our room. We will however go back as it is a perfect venue to go to the Safari park.

My daughter’s wedding reception was held in the Oakwood Room in August and I can only give the highest praise to Kelly, her wedding co-ordinator, and the hotel in general for providing such a high standard of care, superb food and all round effort and support in making our day so special. The newly refurbished function room looked stunning with additional décor by Ballonique and DB Discos providing great entertainment for the evening – both recommended by the hotel. Visitors came from various parts of the country and loved the unusual theme of the hotel and we all enjoyed a stress free reception thanks to the hotel’s event staff. Special mention should be made of the delicious food which guests did make a point of commenting on. All round it was a great experience and more than matched other expensive wedding venues in the area. Well done and many thanks.

We stayed at the Marwell Hotel on 9th and 10th of August. It was a competition win for me, an added bonus! I cannot understand the few bad reviews on this site. The Superior room was spacious and modern, with accessories reflecting the African theme, and the beds were really comfortable. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful, from reception to bar staff, and restaurant service. The bar meals we had were well presented and tasty, and we didn't have to wait to long for them, even though it was quite busy. The evening meal was very nice, although a bit overpriced, and breakfast was one of the best I've ever had at a hotel. All in all a great weekend. I have one small suggestion regarding the small grassed seating area at the front of the hotel. There were no ashtrays on the tables, and although I can understand that they do not want guests to think that this is a designated smoking area, the grass was covered in cigarette ends. Also the addition of a small waste bin would hopefully stop rubbish being left to blow onto the floor. I would not hesitate to recommend The Marwell to friends, and would definitely return myself.

Room Tip: We had room 103 which was perfect.

I wanted to write this review as I have read several previous reviews about the Marwell Hotel.
If you want a relaxing break, good accommodation with great facilities and friendly, helpful staff then stay a night at the Marwell Hotel.
Yes the accommodation is a bit tired but the rooms are clean and I feel in keeping with a stay in a lodge/safari themed hotel. It is right outside Marwell zoo, plenty of parking and the breakfast is great. The staff are attentive, polite and willing to help. The indoor pool is good. Also there is 2 running machines a sauna and free swim towels.
I feel that several reviewers have been unkind and unfair to this hotel and staff.
I have come home relaxed and content and would definitely recommend this hotel to others and most definitely would return in the future.
Marwell Zoo is fab and the animals are free to wander in their large enclosures.
I signed up for annual membership which only cost me an extra £40(they deduct your entry ticket for that day).I would highly encourage anyone to go and visit !!!
Also recommend the Fishers Pond for an evening meal-the view outside of the lake is wonderful.

Stayed in a superior double. The room was good but wasn't worth the extra to upgrade, the advertised pantry was poor, bottle of milk and 2 cookies. The bar was poor , staff weren't helpful. We wanted to order something off the room menu but wanted to eat in bar, was told it was against policy, despite the same kitchen making the food. The balcony area at the rear of the room was in a poor condition and need a clean.
Disappointed and wouldn't return as poor value for money.

Stayed here for 1 night after visiting the zoo. Really loved it. Nice room, swimming pool and lovely food. Only down side, it was rather expensive, would have liked to have stayed for longer but not very affordable.
