Difficult to believe today that many years ago Winchester was the capital of England, but if you bare that in mind the cathedral has an even more important place in the history of this country. Okay so it’s £9.50 to get in, but given it costs over £7000 a day to keep the place open, It’s a small price to pay and actually represents good value for money. Admmission does include a free tour although we did ourselves. So much to see and a great exhibition on the upper floors. Don’t miss the crypt with an interesting sculpture from Anthony Gormley. Having said hat the highlight is the stunning building itself, with its fabulous architecture and stained-glass windows.
