“lovely lodge”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

We visited South Winchester Lodge in February and till used the hot tub which I was a bit dubious about at first but needn't have been - it was lovely lying back looking at the woods beyond. The lodge was nicely furnished and spotless. Only thing was no shaver point but gather other lodges have them and when we mentioned it we were offered a plug in shaver socket so happy to find helpful staff who are bothered to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible.

This is one place we will defernatly going back to!! Just needed to get away and have a nice chilled weekend and this was perfect.
We arrived on the Friday after a 2 half hour drive and was not expecting the lodge to be as nice and big as this.
The living room was very big and every room was such a nice size and it even had two bathrooms!!! One with on suite shower and the other with a bathroom with a nice bath.
If you are after a relaxing break this is the one to book.
Hot tub was nice and warm and even the owner turned up and explained it had been cleaned before we arrived and was warming up which was a nice touch.

Will be going back real soon

Room Tip: Go for lodge number 18 if you would like a hot tub (4 persons) and a 3 bedroom lodge

We used South Winchester Lodges as a base for visiting family in Winchester & found it ideal accommodation for families. It was pleasantly surprising to find cot and high chairs were provided free. The large lounge and well equipped kitchen gave everyone enough room. Two bathrooms were a real bonus. Links to caterers & supermarkets who deliver have also been a real find.

We stayed in one of the hot tub lodges during December for a long weekend get-away! The lodge was amazing- clean, stylish and it had everything we needed for a relaxing weekend. The surroundings were beautiful and very peaceful.

We went into Winchester one morning and it was a lovely town but a little crowded as expected in the build up to christmas. I think any visitors would need a car to get around, wouldn't want to rely on public transport.

Overall a great relaxing weekend!

Room Tip: I rated "sleep quality" as average simply because our bedroom had two single beds instead...

If you are thinking of booking one of these lodges with a hot tub, do not hesitate as you will not be disappointed!! Breathtaking cabins with privet hot tub very very warm!! we did not want to leave after our weekend away :) will be returning very soon, and the added breakfast welcome pack is such a nice touch! only down fall was the master bed (lodge 1) a bit springy i had to move into the twin room , but i mentioned this to the owner on check out and he reassured me that a new one would be put in asap :) he was also very nice. You dont get bothered by anybody the whole stay which was lovely felt like we had the run off the course , maybe cos we went in the winter season and just after xmas 4/01/13 :) would recommended and will be visiting again in spring!!

The lodges are in a great location and are nice little well kept buildings. The ones with hot tubs are a nice treat but they do describe themselves as five star, which they aren't, they are at most a nice four star. Towels are provided but there is no hand towel for the bathroom which left me reaching for a light switch with wet hands on more than one occasion! We had a six bed lodge with two bathrooms but only one standing shower which was an en-suite so not accessible to all of us all of the time. The hot water wasn't constant and showers had to be staggered, just an small inconvenience really. They recommend a lot of eating out or ordering food in, and with good reason, the kitchen is woefully under equipped. The cutlery was 'fisher price' with bendy child like knives and forks. We bought a joint of beef from the local farm shop and had to ask twice for a roasting tin, there wasn't a single baking tray to had and we had to drive to a supermarket to get a simple bun tin to make Yorkshire puddings. The odd thing was that there were only toiletries in one room, no idea why when there were 6 of us, and speaking of which, the sofa only seats four so two people always ended up sitting on the floor when we were relaxing in the evenings, and the cushion covers could have done with a wash. With a bit more attention to detail, these lodges could be completely fantastic, they are almost there but need a bit of work. I would recommend the pamper package, the therapist was brilliant.

I booked this lodge a few months before Christmas and had some queries so the team were fantastic in returning my email and call to confirm I could have a lodge with a hot tub.
Lodge was clean, well equipped and toasty during a very wet stay last week. Despite the weather there is plenty to see and do in the area though you need a car as public transport is sparse. Perfect location for the New Forrest and further shopping in Southampton or Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth.

Lodge was nestled in a small spot on the golf course, very quiet and relaxing. As we were spending our Christmas here, outdoor lights and Christmas tree was a nice touch! Love that these lodges are more adult orientated, no screaming children or disruptive groups, would recommend and planning on booking for the same weekend next year!
