“Absolutely fantastic - 5* all the way”

Stayed one night and thought it was brilliant. The room was very well decorated and had great taste and character, everything was immaculate. The staff were very friendly and professional. Joe and Mark gave us a warm welcome and made our stay very comfortable. They were also on hand to answer any questions we had about the surrounding area and night life. The breakfast was very nice, offering you the choice of healthy meals and a great fry up as well. All in all we will definitely be going back there and would advise anyone looking for a great place to stay which is close to Southampton city centre, to make their way to the White Star!

A nice change to your Novotel's and Ibis's and about the same price. We chose to stay here as we were going to the Mayflower theatre, they organised a taxi for us (£4.50 each way) and checking in was seemless and all staff we came across were helpful and friendly.
Room (Rainbow #10) was clean, comfortable, nicely decorated and well stocked with White Company treats in the bathroom plus a gorgeous walk in shower.
Only slight negative is the heat within the room, as we had to sleep with the windows open but when we mentioned this upon checking out were reassured they were going to be installing vents to reduce exess heat (caused by the fridge).
Breakfast was a delight and we were spoilt for choice but went for poached eggs and mini pastries - would recommend - a lovely way to start your day!! Parking is not on site but only a 2 minute walk and well lit.
Overall a great place to stay.

We recently stayed overnight at the White Star Tavern prior to boarding a cruise in Southampton. We received a warm welcome on our arrival. It was no trouble for the staff to assist in carrying our luggage upstairs for us. When this hotel was refurbished nothing was overlooked. Our room was meticulously appointed, with the most comfortable bed and luxury bedding to the highest quality furnishings - and a beautiful bathroom. This boutique hotel has maintained its original character but had been sympathetically renovated while keeping its charm intact. We loved everything about it. We were travelling with friends who were equally delighted with their experience. We enjoyed the most delicious breakfast, with emphasis placed on local products and our waitress described the products sourced locally with enthusiasm. The White Star Tavern is in an excellent location in an historically interesting area, easily accessible to all that Southampton has to offer. The staff were happy to assist in ordering a taxi for us to the port and carrying our cases downstairs for us on our departure.

Myself and my husband stayed here for our anniversary. When we booked we got a discounted rate plus free breakfasts thrown into the price, so we were delighted. When we arrived we were welcomed by very friendly staff.

The room was outstanding, although not huge it was big enough for myself and my husband, The bath was to die for; so deep and the walk in shower was lovely too although it wasnt that powerful, but who cares!! The bed was ridiculously comfortable with egyption sheets. I literally had the best nights sleep! It was quite noisy until about 12.30am as you are surrounded by bars and restaurants but that didnt bother me although i know the people next door to us complained. The room and bathroom were so clean, a very high standard.

We went down to the bar an hour earlier than our resevation and they said we could go in earlier to eat if we wanted, which we did as we were hungry. The menu was al a carte and to be honest was wasted on me and my husband as we didnt really apreciate the food on the menu, such as pigeon breast. I opted for steak, It was £20, it didnt come with veg and was really small and came with just a few chips. I kept looking out the window wishing I had gone next door to Prezzo! But like i said it was wasted on us! The staff were really friendly. I must add, if you do eat here, you MUST try the brown bread icecream, it was to die for!! however stay clear of the lavendar icecream as you may as well drink a bottle of your nans perfume!

At midnight after going to around the local area we went back to our room and as we walked in the staff asked us if we wanted anything, we got a few drinks and they happily bought them up to our room even though the bar down stairs was heaving!

I just want to say thankyou to all the staff, they all did a fantastic job at making our anniversary special. Nothing was too much for them.

I woud definatly stay again.

Not a castle, but it has been recently renovated and refurnished with style and good taste. Everything worked pretty well (I was there in occasion of the Race around the Island), staff supportive despite being busy in handlng the (nice) pub on the ground floor. Night noise a bit of an issue, but this is true for all locations near pubs (maybe better windows?). Free Wifi a plus. I would recommend it, happy to have stayed there.
