Description: Southampton boasts two branches of the ever popular Bella Italia restaurants and this particular outlet can be found at the Hanover Buildings just opposite Houndwell Park and the Bargate Shopping Centre. The front terrace is wonderful during the warmer months when everyone flocks here to enjoy a spot of Italian dining in the sunshine. Inside you'll find the trademark Bella Italia rustic style with tiled flooring and bistro style décor. The menu features a good range of Italian dishes from pizza to pasta and salads to main like the salmon fillet with roasted new potatoes and green beans topped with tomato salsa. Why not try the Italian style burger or the tasty chicken panino. Wash down with a bottle of Italian red or white or perhaps an ice cold Peroni beer.

Went to this restaurant last night, a party of 13 for a birthday meal. Not a good start when they couldn't find our booking, and after much discussion, had to move some diners who were already seated, to accommodate us. It was VERY noisy, lots of families (can't complain as we were there at 6:30) and large parties, plus some music, and it all echoes round the high ceilings. Our waiter was excellent, and tried really hard to look after us, but there was obviously a problem out the back somewhere as the service was SO slow...half an hour to get the first drink, an hour to our starters, and it didn't get any better...we were there for 4 hours as that's how long it took us to order, be served and eat a three course meal. I have to say that the food, when it arrived, was very good...great pizzas, tasty burgers and yummy desserts, and one of our party who is gluten free, was amazed at the range she had to choose from. Overall, this was expensive and I'm not likely to return for another visit, unless I suddenly need to follow a gluten free diet:)

Visited Saturday evening, booked an hour beforehand by phone.

Although the food was not anything amazing, the quality was good.

The interior was very nice, with tables well spaced apart.

There were tables outside with plenty of seating.

Staff were friendly and the service was faultless.

Drinks were fairly expensive, but food was good value.

The bruschetta was good, as was the garlic bread starter.

The spaghetti and prawn main was tasty.

Would visit again.

Popped in for lunch on a busy weekday - looking for gluten free lunch and was delighted to discover that Bella Pasta has a separate gluten free menu. We chose a Delicious gluten free pasta with tomato and basil sauce, and an amazing gluten free margarita pizza, probably the best I've had in a restaurant so far. The crust was tender and soft with a good texture, not dried up and hard like they often are. Friendly service and a pleasant High street Italian atmosphere - will definitely be back.

There for a birthday meal. The Service was good even though they were very busy but let down by the soggy (thin and crusty) pizza and tasteless thick crust calzone. Not worth another visit. There are too many other restaurants doing this kind of food so much better. £116.00 for five including drinks.
