I’ve reviewed this hotel before and it is still one of the very best I’ve stayed in. Not only does it provide polite and helpful service at reception, but also the rooms are spotless, airy and comfortable especially at the pitch side, alongside which you find excellent facilities and a wonderful breakfast. No wonder it’s so popular as a starting point for cruisers sailing from Southampton - a bit of luxury before embarking.
When we were here last week, we dined in Beefy’s RestUrant in the hotel but unfortunately we were a little disenchanted by the service and the quality of the food given that the restaurant is by no means cheap.
One of us had a sirloin steak which was expensive but he thought it would be right up his street! However, there was a high percentage of fat and gristle which was inedible in the cut he was served, and when this was pointed out at the end of the meal, the waiter said without offence,
“Well, perhaps you should have chosen fillet?” (a remark worthy of Basil Fawlty)
The meals were served at different times and we had long waits for water/wine which was frustrating, again considering this is an expensive place to dine.
In all other respects I can’t praise the hotel enough, but I think the staff in the restaurant would benefit from a bit more training!
