Stayed in room 122. Nice and quiet with no noise from roadworks. Fantastic warm welcome from staff and this continued when ordering a meal. Nothing too much trouble for the staff. Standard hotel food and the hot breakfast offering is scrambled egg and sausages, no bacon.
Rooms are comfy and clean. Good value for money. There is a Brewers Fayre pub opposite if the hotel menu doesn't suffice.

We stayed here for 1 night in October, 2016. There was plenty of free parking space and we found the staff very welcoming and helpful.

Our room was very clean, and the bed was comfortable. There was no air conditioning in the room though a fan was provided and there was also an option to ask for sheets for the bed rather than the supplied duvet. Temperatures during our stay were cool anyway so this was not an issue. The bed was only a standard size which seemed a bit on the small side to what we normally expect.

Breakfast was included in the room rate and we thought good value. The hot options only included scrambled egg, beans and sausages but I personally didn't miss additional items that other hotels often include, and found the fayre on offer perfectly acceptable and enjoyable. We did have an evening meal at the hotel which we thought was acceptable in terms of taste, but very pricy for what it was. The menu was quite limited, but since we didn't feel like going out to find a restaurant, the convenience of eating in-house was a welcome (but expensive) option.

The lounge and dining areas are clean and roomy but I think lack character and I would not see myself spending a whole evening there. Having said that, we would consider using this hotel again when we next visit Southampton.

Your usual side-of-motorway hotel. Fine for a night, did the job.

Second beds weren't made in any of the rooms, arriving tired late at night and having to wait a while for all of them to be sorted obviously isn't the best.

Otherwise, nothing special.

Located just off the M271/M27 with plenty of car parking space this is what I would expect from what I see as a motorway and one night stopover hotel. The hotel is pleasant enough and I found the staff to be efficient and helpful. Room was as I expected and being on the ground floor there was no motorway noise. I arrived late and had a pizza that was actually very nice. I would not stop here for a holiday or short break due to the location but otherwise no problems.

We stayed here on a Saturday night at the beginning of October and were quite surprised to find it not only extremely difficult to access the hotel due to numerous local road closures and diversions, but also the work seemed to go on all night right next to the hotel - no mention on the website when we booked though.
We were also annoyed that we were given a room right outside the lift when our profile states that we always want a room away from the lift, but since we arrived at 10.30pm we were not inclined to return to reception to change it which was probably a mistake on our part. Apart from these irritations, this hotel is pleasant enough. The room was clean, functional and we thought a good breakfast for the price. In future when staying in Southampton which we shall be doing more often in future, we shall explore other options.

Dear Liquidator421

I would firstly like to thank you for taking time to leave feedback about your stay with us at Holiday Inn Express Southampton West, I am sorry to here your stay was not up to the high standards we normally produce. We have had the information about the road works displayed on our website for sometime, so apologies if this was not clear to you when booking. As you can appreciate the road works are something we don't control and we have had triple glazing installed to help with any noise made by these works.

In response to the issue with your room being close to the lift we could have changed this if this was made aware to us, but from checking on the system we did not have any information about room specifics so we had not allocated a room away from the lift.

We always try and make our guests stay as comfortable as possible. The next time you visit please be sure to speak to the team on duty and they will arrange to give you the room that will best fit your stay.

We do hope you return to us soon and your next stay with us is a enjoyable one.

Regards
