“Friendly comfortable hotel”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

I have just finished a work project in Southampton and would rate the Premier Inn highly due to the friendly welcome from the helpful reception staff, comfortable and clean room and also the friendly service in the restaurant.

On arrival you are usually greeted by a smiling receptionist - they normally have two on duty at any one time.

Parking is limited (as described on their website) but the helpful Dave in the car park will do his best to squeeze you in somewhere or advise alternative parking. Best to arrive in good time though rather than turn up late expecting or demanding a space.

Good location - only 5 minute walk into town centre, little bit longer into the old town.

Rooms are comfortable with aircon/heating and bathroom clean with plenty of towels.

Restaurant is quite good for food as hotels go plus there are friendly waitresses and waiters on hand. Would recommend the fish and chips - the batter is fantastic and the fish moist within the batter.

Free 30 minutes wifi available but you can buy extra time £3 per night or £20 per month etc - it is a bit patchy at times though so patience required.

Would definitely return if working in Southampton again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front are quieter during the night

Arrived late after travel delays. warm and helpful welcome
room and bathroom were very basic, more tired than other Premier Inns I have stayed in. room smelt of cheap cleaning fluid but was quiet. Contrary to other reviews, had a single and a double bed in the room at no extra cost. didn't have breakfast as extra on top of room rate would have made it very expensive. Convenient location.

We are regular users of Premier Inn as we always find them very clean, reliable, good value for money and with professional friendly staff. This Premier Inn was no exception. We got the room for a very good price using one of Premier Inn's offers. The welcome and the room were, as always, excellent. The 5th floor restuarant was good views and the service here was particularly friendly with happly, bubbly, chatty staff. The food was hot, tasy and quick, and good value with 2 courses for £12.50. There was some noise from the railway, but the website makes you aware of this and there is double glazing and it really didn't bother us at all.Noisy guests in adjacent rooms and along the corridors well after midnight were more annoying but that's not the hotel's fault. The location is great - just a short walk from West Quay and the Guildhall. We read previous reviews on tripadvisor about the problems of parking here so we dedided to park elsewhere. Southampton Council's website advises you not to leave your car overnight in open air car parks but instead to use one of two secure multi storeys with CCTV. We parked in Marlands at 8.50 the first morning, left our car there all day and overnight collecting it at 11am the following morning, This cost £8 in total (£5 for the period up to 6pm, £3 6pm-midnight, free midnight to 12 noon sunday) which we felt was good value. The car park at the Premier Inn is £4 but we did not see any spaces there. Marlands is about a 15 minute walk.
We would stay at this Premier Inn again.

Lovely surprise. Very clean room and well maintained hotel. Good quality bedding made the experience feel luxurious. Staff friendly and efficient on reception. Highly recommended when visiting Southampton.

Room Tip: A quiet area is available on request with triple glazing to keep the noise of the traffic out.

The hotel is right in the centre of Southampton, along side the university & close to all the parks, shops & restaurants.
We've stayed here b4 but this time we had to pay for parking £4 per day, (the car park has been sold) Also there isn't enough spaces so get in quick!
The room & bathroom were spotless & well maintained (the teatry was basic with no decaf coffee, hot chocolate or biscuits)
Reception was very helpfull, polite & friendly. The reception area had a drinks, snacks & ice cream vending machine which was a nice extra, plus a Coasta coffee machine but it was out of order.
The Restuarnt in the 5th floor had great views & the staff, service & food was very good.

We stayed at the hotel for a night prior to attending my sons graduation. We booked two rooms one double and one twin as my daughter and son were to share a room. In my sons room was a double bed and a sofa bed. My husband went to reception to say that we had booked a twin room. He was told that it was a twin room and that the sofa bed was a single bed. He advised the receptionist that they were adults and not children and that this was not a single size bed. She said that they did not have any rooms with two single beds and that they did not have zip and tuck beds either and when we booked the rooms we should have read the small print. She also went on to say that if we wanted to book in at another hotel we could but we would not get a refund . Due to the parking restrictions in Southampton and the fact that there were lots of people there for the graduation ceremonies there was not a option to book into another hotel. Whilst in reception four guys were also not happy with having sofa beds.

Room Tip: Do not book a twin room as you will not get a two single beds

We stayed at Premier Inn for 1 night prior to our cruise and we were very happy with it - clean room, no noise at night, good breakfeast and good dining room. Good location - just steps away from a large shopping mall for any last minute purchases. I had read in another review that it was within walking distance of port - not true - it was a good 15-20 minute walk (we walked over in the morning to see how far it was). We took a taxi for 6 pounds
