My husband and I stayed at this hotel prior to our cruise from Southampton. It was on the main street near many restaurants, stores and the West Quay Mall..We were pleased with our room on the first floor but were a little disappointed that it faced High Street ..During the night voices were heard from the gentlemen's clubs across the street. I would suggest a room in the back or away from the main street.

My son and I stayed at this hotel during the October half term with a special deal from Wowcher. The hotel was easy to find and the parking was secure. The reception staff and restuarant staff were polite and friendly and the room was comfortable. I suppose you could say that the room was quite basic but it was spotlessly clean and quite quirky as it is a very old hotel.

Our deal included dinner and to be honest the portion sizes were very small and the choice quite limited. However, the food was beautifully cooked and as we were going to the cinema a special effort was made to serve our meal quickly. The breakfast was excellent. There was a large choice of cooked breakfast items, cereal, pastries and fruit. I particularly enjoyed their local marmalade!

All in all in was a lovely trip - Southampton is a fantastic city with loads to do and see. I would have no hesitation in staying in this hotel again if we are ever in Southampton again.

We have only ever stayed at this hotel for 1 night at a time but if you want a low budget, city centre hotel then this is great. It's an old coaching house so don't expect modern rooms and totally modern facilities, the layout is a little on the strange side but with a rustic charm!

Rooms are small but comfortable and free tea and coffee making facilities are available which, these days, is becoming rather rare! The ensuite was dated but functional.

The hotel has a restaurant which represents good value for money and really good food, however, the service does leave a lot to be desired. We were somewhat forgotten, our plates weren't cleared away and to top it all, the promised chocolates weren't delivered with the coffee! However, when this was mentioned, we did get complimentary chocolate from the chef, a nice touch!

All in all, not a bad experience, not a fantastic one but certainly comfortable and clean and well worth a recommendation provided that you are not expecting the Ritz!

The hotel was a couple of minutes walk from the main shopping area which was ideal for us. The hotel is an old coach house so the layout is a little strange. The staff were very friendly & most helpful. You can enjoy a hearty breakfast before you hit the shops if required. The room was small but comfortable enough if you only needed to sleep in it? The bathroom looked a little tired & required a freshening up, but on the whole an enjoyable stay. We would definitely stay at the Dolphin again if the price was right.
