We had 4 families staying in this hotel for one night, as booked a deal with a 2 day ticket to Peppa Pig World. We had a family room, which over looked high street and bars. We stayed on a Saturday night. Apparently when it was booked the person was told there was a function in the room, but noone could of prepared us for what happened. We got back to hotel at about 8pm and being a nice evening sat in the court yard area with kids had a glass of wine. We realised that there was a function going on. About 8.30 went up to our room on floor 3. The function room is on floor 2, so on floor 3 our beds were actually moving to the bass. We called reception who moved us to a double room, which was done quickly and they sent someone to help us but we had to move 2 kids and a cot. We then had a room with just a double and a cot, so our 2 and 4 year old had to sleep in a travel cot. The second room was much quieter but overlooked courtyard where guests from function room would gather to have a smoke. Nightmare. This hotel should not hold functions and book out rooms to families at same time. The staff at hotel should ask smokers not to use their courtyard at night as guest rooms over look area.

Having said that breakfast was included in deal and was very nice. Staff were very helpful and first room (family room) was large and very well laid out.

Room Tip: dont sleep at the front in the family room

The hotel apart from the reception was far too hot! There was a marked increase in temperature on entering the lift which remained on entering our room. We spent the whole of our two night stay with a fan on in the room and window open , and had to resort to keeping our 18 month old in only her nappy even to sleep as it was so uncomfortable! The weather was cool and grey outside so this was not the cause of it and they must have known there was a problem to supply a small fan in the room! It was ridiculous we were glad to go outside to feel comfortable!

We stayed at the Dolphin on Tuesday 12 July, as we were boarding the QM2 on the 13th. We have stayed in this hotel before, because their deal on parking is excellent value. Although on this evening the hotel was exceptionally warm, we were provided with a fan which worked well. We were given a ground-floor room, as requested, and we also had our windows open while we were in the room.

The welcome we received was warm and our room was spacious. The location of the hotel is excellent, with just a few minutes walk to the main shopping area and a great variety of eateries. The Weatherspoon pub, Standing Orders, a few doors up, serves a good drink and the food is reasonable. We have recommended this hotel to a number of people who have agreed that it is good value.
