Having passed by the village centre it was a cosiderable surprise to find such a lovely collection of businesses. Initially coming specifically to buy a radiator we noted that only one of numerous cafes was busy - always a good sign, so we wandered back and struck lucky. A lovely interior, well thought-out and with friendly young staff who are obviously well-trained as well as well brought-up. People-watchers will be at-home here as a variety of locals (clean riding boots !) and Winchester students, graduates and out-of-towners sit almost elbow-to-elbow. It is obviously THE place to enjoy a coffee or a real tea-leaf cuppa with an interesting, appetising variety of snacks and cakes, croissants, scones etc. The young girls are cheerful and attentive and service is efficient, although they don't rush you out once finished even with people waiting patiently for a table. Been twice and will return just for a lovely break from the usual routine of chores and supermarket shopping!

Its a great place for a light lunch in a good atmospheric location. The Croque Monsier is great as well as the smoothies. Great for coffee and cake or a fine array of wines.

After a morning exploring Bishops Waltham and its splendid High Street - worth a recommendation in its own right - we were looking for a simple light lunch. Out of several promising possibilities, we opted for Josie's, a bright modern café-deli on the High Street itself.
The place was busy, obviously popular with 30-somethings but with all ages well represented. The staff were bright, young and welcoming.
As filled ciabattas seemed to be the speciality, I chose the beef, horseradish and rocket version. My wife went for crayfish and avocado.
They came remarkably quickly considering it was peak lunchtime. Josie's ciabattas are well presented on little wooden boards. They come with a small sharp knife which allows you to cut your ciabatta without squishing it in all directions! Good thinking.
My beef was well flavoured. My wife's choice was generously filled with crayfish - well done, Josie's, some places would have made two out of that much.
A very pleasant lunch. Would we look in next time we visit Bishops Waltham? Highly likely.
