Booked a “comfy” room 5 weeks before staying, using hotel website. Room was described as larger than a “cozy” room
and showed a double bed next to a window. The room we were given was little more than a box room - I’d love to say it overlooked the car park (it certainly faces that way) but actually the window is so high that you cannot see out of it. For reference, it is room 5. The Manager, James, was sympathetic and upgraded us the following night to a large room (Room 4) which I believe is their largest. He was quick and sincere but we were somewhat surprised that Room 5 is being used as a guest room at all at a rate of gbp 170 per night.

Both rooms were spotless and well appointed. Breakfast for £10 was great value and both hearty and delicious.

Booked in December, had the piggy board starter , plaice and salads then mixed desserts

Very friendly and attentive staff.

Limited choice, but food all of very high quality, and well cooked.

Not cheap, but worth it

My partner gave me a stay with you as a birthday surprise. He asked for one of the three rooms we wanted. Right after we arrived, we found that we did not get the required room. We were very sad
When my partner went to ask why, they said they had a problem with a website which wasn't her problem ... but it wasn't ours either. So we wanted to enjoy the rest of the evening, but the lights were flashing in our room and early morning the hotel staff cheerfully entertained our door and woke us up again which was not nice. when the hotel employee asked us at checkout if we enjoyed the stay, we told her we were disappointed and why, her manager was right next her and didn't respond. although we complained about in the hotel and later by email, nobody cared about us. I'm very sad. Probably never come back!

On a previous visit to Southampton when we stayed at the Grand Harbor Hotel, we stopped at The Pig in the Wall for a break and beverage. On the next trip to Southampton I did not hesitate and booked a room for several days at The Pig in the Wall. The building is built into the old city wall. It is old but the interior has been updated. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. However, this is an old structure. There is NO elevator. There are many steps to the rooms. If you are handicapped or have issues with stairs, this is NOT the place for you. Otherwise, it is in a GREAT location. The West Quay Shopping Center is just a few blocks away. If you want to stay some place different for a few days, I would consider The Pig in the Wall.

The building is old and quirky The room was spacious and comfortable with fridge, walk in shower and bath. The staff are friendly and helpful. The deli counter has delightful cakes and sausage rolls and lots more. The dining area is cosy and attractive with comfortable arm chairs . Had a good meal in the evening, excellent aubergine stew, service good. Cooked breakfast v good and a Continental alternative offers a wide variety of food. Thoroughly recommended.
