“Fabulous stay at the Pig”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

After a stay in the Pig in the Forest last year, we were very excited to try the Pig in the Wall, and we weren't disappointed. Although it's much smaller than its sister hotel (12 rooms I think?) the rustic 'Pig' vibe is definitely there throughout - from the friendly staff to the gorgeous rooms. We stayed in a 'comfy' room, which was lovely and spacious given the size of the building. The bed was huge and comfortable, and the shower was brilliant. The bathroom is much smaller than the equivalent at the Pig in the Forest, but is perfectly formed.

The B&B is walking distance from the station, the town centre and the marina, and the shuttle service to the Brockenhurst hotel for dinner is excellent - you really shouldn't miss dinner there if you have the chance.

I can only pick a couple of tiny faults with this place. One is breakfast - it's a buffet-style layout with granola, toast, eggs etc, but there didn't seem to be any cook to order food on offer. What was there was delicious though. The only other area for improvement I can think of is the staff's knowledge of offers - we were staying on a b&b + dinner at the Brockenhurst Pig offer, and were given a bill that charged us for everything separately. The staff on the desk were great and sorted everything out very rapidly, but I got the feeling they were a little confused about what was and wasn't included.

Would definitely return, and will be recommending this beautiful place to anyone staying in Southampton.

...if you can handle sitting in a cosy shabby chic lounge/ kitchen diner with church quiet sunday morning breakfast with the sunday papers. It was so relaxed and calm, we found it hard to work out what was going on and where to get our egg cups! I can't wait to visit their sister branch in brokenhurst and a slice of the country and to see their kuni kuni pig! The bathrooms were just to die for! fantastic shower 'cave', fantastic old skool toilet with chain! fabulous floor tiles and some unique bathroom products. The marble sink was beautiful but the taps were way too low.... the only fault there! The bedroom was small, we were in a 'cosy' room, but as big as it needed to be and I'm glad generous space was given over to the bathroom. The larder was great, we tucked into some late night snacks as our trip to a local restaurant left us hungry. Only problem was the painful coir flooring, as someone said before take slippers!! Also I would suggest a little more info in the room on things like check out times and anti allergy pillows being available from the night porter.... I was awake all night coughing I'm afraid on the luxurious pillows and air con I think, still enjoyed my stay though. The staff were nice and relaxed and the georgian building itself set into the old city walls was ideal to see the remnants of the cities past all within a stones throw. They do have a lunch menu which we sampled a little on arrival and it was good. It was disappointing not to be able to eat at the pig, they just don't have the space, but southampton really lacks anywhere good to eat! so I would really suggest they open up a small restaurant nearby. The cool landrover service to the brokenhurst branches restaurant is booked up well in advance and it was disappointing seeing it return after a very disappointing sampling of recommended restaurants in the local vicinity. However returning from an undrinkable cocktail at the thai pier to the warmth of our hotels chase gin and fever tree tonic in a cut glass hi ball, sipped by the old stone round table terrace was joyous relief enough. A great little place. Gorgeously relaxing.

I always think you can judge a place by two things, the staff and the quality of the bathrooms. We stayed at the Pig lat week and the staff were delightful, I really cannot commend them all enough. Oh and the bathrooms are superb, as one of your colonial cousins, to find a shower that actually works is a joy. And they have some really super products called Bramleys, not the usual mass market rubbish you find everywhere. Its just a lovely touch of quality and thats what this place is all about. This is an awesome place to stay if you are in this area.

My wife and I have just returned from a very memorable weekend in Southampton made so by the staff at The Pig in the Wall and The Pig.

TPITW is a bit of an oasis in Southampton.

The rooms and the good were only exceeded by the friendliness of the entire staff.

At every opportunity they were helpful and friendly.

One highlight was the trip to the New Firedt for dinner at the sister inne, The Pig. The meal and the facility were also great.

We highly recommend a stay at either Pigs anytime you are in the Hampshire area.

Thank you

This bed and breakfast has a friendly vibe. It is modern and contemporary, the bar area is small and quaint. They have secure gated car parking which is an added bonus.
The room had a fantastic walk in double shower, comfortable fresh crisp bed and pillows and a snug temperature throughout stay. Free wifi. Complementary coffee/milk. No biscuits which at a £160 per night room only is a slight disappointment.
Bar menu, basic limited choice and at £6.95 small glass of wine and £10.95 large glass your money seems not to go far. On many occasions we were offered breakfast for an additional costing of £10 per head we declined.
We had a great time but I don't think you get value for money, slightly over priced for a luxury bed and breakfast but breakfast is not included.
Yes I would return to a sister hotel but only if I got the piggy deal....
Location is freely accessible to all places to visit. Walking distance.

It's not often that i write reviews but this hotel really deserves one!

My Husband, 3 month old Son and myself stayed at The Pig In The Wall for one night on 4th April 2013 for my Husbands birthday. We were unsure whether we would be welcome with such a young baby in a small hotel but from the first telephone call to the hotel to make our booking the wonderful staff couldn't do enough to help us.

On arriving at the hotel we were greeted by a lovely lady, i think her name was Manon (apologies if that is spelt incorrectly). She checked us in, showed us to our room and ran through everything that we may need to know to make our stay comfortable. She was friendly, polite and knowledgable.

The room - one word - WOW! We stayed in one of the larger rooms as we needed space for the travel cot. The room had a huge bed which was one of the most comfortable beds i have ever slept in, there was a stand alone bath in the room, a large TV, a larder stocked with yummy treats, an amazing shower and some lovely luxury bath products to enjoy. The room was absolutely spotlessly clean and had some really special finishing touches. I really couldn't fault it all.

On the evening we went to The Pig at Brockenhurst for an early dinner. We had a fantastic meal in a beautiful setting and watched the sun set while we ate, priceless. We took advantage of the Land Rover shuttle to The Pig which was excellent, our driver Paul was such a nice man - courteous, polite, friendly, professional and knowledgeable.

Breakfast the next morning was wonderful, it was really different & interesting - home made granola, egg and soldiers, coffee, juice - all fresh and delicious. Again Manon greeted us in the morning with a smile, just lovely!

Everybody should visit this gem of a hotel, Thank you Pig In The Wall, we'll be back!
