visited southampton, stayed here saturday night, £59.40 B&B double room, booked with booking.com, very clean, well furnished room, good breakfast, had to queue but did'nt take long, good selection cooked, cereals pastries, toast fruit, all you could want, very quick check in and out, friendly staff, about 15 mins drive to center, would definitely stay here again.

Whilst the hotel is easy enough to find and is only 1½ Miles from Junction 7 (M27), I wish it was even closer – the local roads got very busy during ‘rush hour’ periods.
We found the reception staff surly both on check in and check out. We had done nothing to cause this! Usually Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express employees are very pleasant. Fortunately the other hotel staff were all friendly and helpful.
Some other reviews (and the hotel’s website) say the rooms are ‘spacious’ – no they are not, they are adequate, that is all. We had a twin room and found the (single) beds a bit wider than at other hotels in the same chain and thank goodness at this hotel the quilts are wider than the bed, however the hotel’s description of ‘luxurious bedding’ is an exaggeration.
Housekeeping was good – the room was always left clean and the beds made very neatly.
The clothes hanging facilities are sadly lacking unless you are staying only one night. We stayed four nights and found 6 hangers on a 9inch (23cm) bar inadequate. Apart from the limited storage space the room and facilities were fine.
This large hotel has (an advertised) 176 rooms, so it is not surprising we had to queue each morning for Breakfast. Despite the queues nothing ever ran short for more than a few seconds because the ‘breakfast staff’ worked so very hard replenishing items. Other reviews refer to breakfast queues, which suggests this is a frequent problem. One morning during our stay the hotel posted a notice suggesting the busy time of 9 am was avoided, so we did, but maybe others also did and we still queued. The truth is the facilities are inadequate to cope with the volume. In the short term it might help if the drinks dispenser was not adjacent to the hot breakfast items. Apart from the annoying queues, breakfast provided ample choice and reasonable quality bearing in mind it is ‘free’.
We found the best aspect of this hotel to be the food served at the hotel during the evening. Normally hotel restaurants overcharge but not here (drinks are still dear though!). Starters range from £5 to £6 and mains £8 to £12 – we didn’t try every meal but enough to convince us the food was excellent value, in both quantity and quality. Some Indian dishes were dearer at £15 but these included extras that would satisfy any appetite.
All in all, not perfect but good value and if we are in the area again we would happily return.

Room Tip: Book and pay in advance to get a discount.

We stayed here for one night before going over the the Isle of Wight. The room was a lovely size and very clean, but we were not able to get Wifi or phone signal in our room. Fee Wifi Everywhere is advertised!. The breakfast area is far to small for the size of the hotel. We had to queue for 35 minutes to get breakfast. Also due to the location of the drinks machine you had to queue just to get a drink!! Complimentary breakfast, not really as you pay for it in the price of your stay.

Dear Guest

Thank you very much for chosing our hotel for your recent stay.

We apologise that the wifi signal did not appear to be working in your room. Unfortunately this was not reported or we would have been pleased to assist you by checking your settings or resetting the WAP. I am pleased to advise that as part of our commitment to our guests, we have arranged for new wireless access points to be installed across the hotel and the installation is due to be completed this week so we are confident you will have a perfect signal in every single room on your next stay as part of our free wifi offering.

We do recognise that the location of the hot drink machines is not always ideal during busy breakfast service on Sunday mornings, but we offer extended breakfast opening hours to accord our guests more time to enjoy the extensive complimentary buffet offering we provide.

We are very appreciative of your positive feedback about the large comfortable size of our rooms and your particular recognition of our high standards of cleanliness

Kind regards

The hotel was alright. Not great service, not really convienient, and the bed was not comfortable at all. It's not a bad hotel but it's not a great one either. I was impressed by the look of everything other than the room we sleept in. The air conditioner didn't work either. The breakfast was pretty good though.

We have stayed at this hotel several times and never been disappointed with anything at all. The staff are always pleasant, friendly and eager to help. The only problem this hotel has is that we have to go outside to get a mobile signal, but that's no trouble at all. I have read that other guests have had the same problem. Of course, that would be down to the mobile providers and not the hotel, so no complaints there. Yes, it's like coming home again.......

Room Tip: We have stayed on the ground floor and the top floor and find no difference at all, it is a very qui...

Hotel is in a convenient location just off the motorway. My room was spotlessly clean, although slightly more basic than holiday inns I've stayed at before (this is my first express). For example there is no bath, only a shower. The only minor issue is I couldn't get any mobile signal for three within the hotel, and had to walk into the carpark in the rain to make a call. Overall the hotel provided everything required for a comfortable overnight stay.

Booked two rooms for a family trip to Gunwharf Quays and surrounding area. All requests were catered for (rooms close together and cot placed in room) and comfortable clean rooms with nice breakfast the following morning. Staff friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Very quiet at night so children weren't disturbed once they were in bed. Good value for money. It would be nice to see Holiday Inn introducing children's play areas in the majority of their hotels though.

Room Tip: Request a ground floor room, these seem quieter at night
