“Surprisingly bad food”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

Stopped in on the way home from paultons park with the mrs and two young kids. Pub looks great, we were expecting a decent experience. Walked in to an empty bar, no service for over 5 mins, it felt awkward when a waitress finally appeared then was quite moody. We got sat down it was pretty quiet, plenty of tables to chose from, fairly clean and nice looking. Ordered very simple meals, fajitas, hotdog, nuggets. Took almost an hour to arrive. Hotdog cold, fajitas rock solid chicken and dreadful wraps. Manager apologised and refunded the meal. We were thankful for that. Went home hungry.

“Pretty average”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

Called here with friends and family as it was convenient on the way home from Paultons Park. Staff were helpful and attentive, tables were clean and food was very reasonably priced. Food arrived in about 20 minutes and when it arrived you could almost count the chips individually. One friend had a Lasagne and she thought they'd forgotten half of it as it was squashed in the bottom of a shallow dish. Initial impressions were poor, but it was actually about the right amount of food so that you felt satisfied but not too full. Considering that we probably paid about £13 for 3 of us, it wasn't bad value for money when compared against other fast food outlets.

We did end up having a dessert, but the Mrs and I shared that and to be fair it was huge and at about £3.95 not excessively overpriced either. My daughter had free ice cream with her meal which was a bonus.

I would definitely visit there again as it was convenient, reasonably priced and although portion sizes were small, the food was tasty. If I was looking to go somewhere for a special occasion it wouldn't be at the top of my list but it certainly left us happy that night.

“Great for lunch”
Reviewed August 27, 2013 via mobile

Had lunch here twice last week whilst camping nearby. First time we had baguettes which were delicious and well filled. Second time was a cooked dinner with dessert which again was delicious.
On both occasions the pub was reasonably busy with customers inside and out but the staff were attentive and pleasant. No suggestions of ignoring customers as suggested by other reviews.
Yes we had to wait for the food to be cooked, but it was hot and well presented when it arrived. If you want fast food go to McDonald's.
My only complaint was the gent's toilet is a bit small and unkempt.
Overall I think it was to a standard typical of most pubs and was of a reasonable value. If you want fine dining then go elsewhere.

“A poor choice”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

Wow, this place just gets worse, I visited here in February vowing never to return, but with circumstances, I ended up here again, still no improvement, poor service I had to wait 8 minutes to get served while staff chatted, the real ale was off only the rubbish IPA which is a pale ale and no attempt to connect another barrel. I was forced to drink lager. The food was awful obviously the cooks night off it was cold, burnt and a mess.
Give this place a miss, go somewhere else, this pub needs to put new management in here quickly otherwise it will become another pub closure.
3 old scruffy smelly men stood at the front door smoking you had to run the gauntlet to get in, I'm sure this is not legal but again the management don't care.

“very disapointing”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

Last week we had a great holiday at the new forest, staying on the outskirts this was our nearest pub/restaurant within walking distance, the first night was fine, as the week went on there was less and less to order from as they were running out of food and did not seem to get any supplies in, burger buns being one which I carnt understand as there is a shop down the road, the offers appeared good on paper e.g 2 x fish and chips £10.99, but you guessed it ran out of fish by 8pm! the icing on the cake was by the end of the week, no ice for drinks!, The last night of our holiday we were not looking forward to going there, so we drove into the forest to a lovely pub called The Green Dragon which had great food and lovely atmosphere. The staff were nice but we felt the manager could of been more hands on and took the pressure of them by running the pub better.
