Had not been to this pub for a long while, but with friends coming over from belgium thought we would pop in and check it out. Glad we did.
In spite of it being 9.30 on a Thursday evening, there were only a few people in, not surprised, the bar maid totally ignored us, never even made eye contact, so we walked out.
This is most stunning pub but it needs the right people working in it, why do some publicans think people will spend money in a place where they are not given good customer service.

You can almost sense the long history of this olde worldy pub and the tourists must love it. Sunday roasts are large, freshly made with proper joints and fresh vegetables so they are fantastic value for money. The parrot is as famous as the pub and an attraction himself.

We recently stay in Southampton pre-cruise, and plan on going to the infamous Red Lion Inn after reading about it on "tripadvisors".
The Red Lion Inn located at 55 High Street is the oldest ale house in the city. On Sunday they have specials on family style dinners which go very well with their locally made ales on tap! The Red Lion Inn claim to fame is their 20 plus ghosts! That’s right, as per their website they boast 20 ghosts; all of them eager to make an appearance. Unfortunately we didn’t see any ghostly aberrations. Hmmm, I guess they didn’t get the memo from us requesting that we wanted them to make an appearance? But sure was a fun way to start our vacation by eating large portions of food with cold pints of ale; especially with all their habitants lurking around!

This place is dropping with history and its own resident parrot! It's the sort of place you'd love to be a local, but, unfortunately, if you're not a local, the batman can be quite unwelcoming.

Great to go for a pint and some real lived in Southampton history.
