“Perfect price, perfect location!”
Reviewed November 3, 2011

The Premier Inn at West Quay is in the prime location for Southampton City Centre. Right next to the shopping centre and cinema and theatre are also in walking distance.

The staff were efficient and friendly. They were able to help with any queries we had.

The bedrooms were clean and comfortable and I would be more than willing to stay for much longer than one night.

We ate dinner in the restaurant, which wasn't the best meal I'd ever had, but was tasty and well cooked. The breakfast in the morning, although we had to pay extra, was extrememly good value for money.

Overall, if you want a decent place to stay in Southampton, you can't go wrong with the Premier Inn at West Quay.

There are two big buts for me and anyone else who is getting old or is less agile than they used to be!

1) The beds are really, really firm - my 16 stone didn't even dent the mattress.

2) There is no hand grabrail on the wall above the long side of the bath to assist when getting in/out after showering or washing, also the bath surface is quite slippery.

Everything else about the hotel is top notch for the money, but from me at least only two stars due to the above problems.

Comfortable rooms, as per Premier Inn standard, which never surprise you in the negative. This hotel has the good point of being in an excellent location for shopping, the quays and city-visiting. Also, its service and attention to clients is really outstanding, with the maitre Amanda being absolutely fabulous and one of the best I have ever seen.
Definitely, the best hotel in Southampton!

Room Tip: I was given a room in the top floor, the 5th one, and you couldn't hear a noise from outside, so...

From the moment we arrive we knew we'd made the right choice for our hotel stay before our cruise left Southampton the following morning.

Very handy for those arriving via Southampton Central train station with a short taxi ride to the hotel, even handier if you fancy going a short wander to West Quay for shopping. As we found the following morning its also very handy for anyone sailing from Ocean Terminal (taxi again).

The check-in was seamless with friendly, helpful staff.

The family room was great. We have stayed in family rooms before which are clearly not designed to accommodate a family but this one had a double, a single and a good quality 'sofa chair' type bed and still had enough room for all our bags and freedom of movement.

Having had a less than pleasant rail journey down from Glasgow we elected to eat at the hotel as well. Another great choice as the service and food were both great.

A great nights sleep in comfortable beds followed by a fantastic buffet breakfast the following morning meant we all came away wishing we'd planned to stay on our return from our cruise.

The family room only was a bargain at £29, and the breakfast was equally good value with the kids being free with adults paying.

All in all we've stayed in any number of 5 star hotels who could learn a great deal from this hotel and its staff.

We were going on a day visit to a P&O ship docked in Southampton, so decided to travel down after work the evening before.
We prebooked the Premier Inn at a very reasonable price. SatNav gave us a few problems finding the hotel, but it was relatively easy to spot. We parked in the multistorey behind the hotel.
Check-in was very simple - diy via a machine - however there was a very friendly staff member available to give us a hand if we needed it.
Room was spacious, clean, and warm. Bathroom good - nice hot shower - and the bed was comfy. Few noise problems - doors closing along the corridor, and some drunks singing briefly outside. I admit, however that I am a light sleeper.
We had continental breakfast which was excellent. The cooked breakfast also looked good. The restaurant was very pleasant and exceedingly well-run.
With hindsight I think I would have liked to have arrived earlier in the day, and possibly have had dinner at the hotel.
Thoroughly recommended hotel

Everything was perfect, more like a 4 star hotel than a premier inn. Staff a real credit to the hotel.

This is a brand new hotel, and it shows- in a good way. The room was very clean and well-fitted out, with comfy firm beds and a decent shower. Breakfast was a surprisingly good buffet- lots of choice. Staff were young and unfailingly excellent- they went out of their way to help, for example with directions, helping us to open doors, picking up dropped teddies etc. Considering that the room was only £29 (for a couple and a child- a double and a single bed) this was a bargain. (Breakfast cost extra but I would definitely take it).
If you happen to be travelling to Peppa Pig World, this hotel is close and easy to find, and welcoming of children.
I am trying to think of downsides to this hotel and the only one I can come up with is a) you need to pay to park in the adjacent multi-storey and b) the view from the window is not particularly picturesque. Oh, and c) at breakfast tea and coffee are included but you have to pay for hot chocolate. These are tiny things. I would definitely return.
