“good stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2013

stayed in this hotel for one night with my daughter and grandson, I found the staff very friendly and helpful. we had a family room which was quite spacious, it was very clean and it had a bath in the bathroom, not just a shower. there was plenty of tea and coffee.
We ate in the restaurant in the evening. The food was good and reasonably priced. The only downside to this was they put a service charge on top of the bill.
The breakfast next day was very good with plenty of choice.
We also had free use of the swimming pool
The checking in and out times were great too. check in 2 pm check out 12 noon.

Room Tip: high room has a good view

We booked a room for an away day with my staff - it was set up fine - with no problems. The organiser on the day was a little curt and impersonal - but not a big problem.

It's the restaurant that screwed it all up for us: we ordered our meals 40 minutes before and on arrival at the restaurant we found it empty and devoid of any staff. Eventually someone turned up and then we were seated. We waited another 10 minutes before anyone came to our table (which we had to arrange ourselves) to take a drinks order. It took an age for the drinks and food to arrive.

It wasn't great.

The restaurant was being manned by one lady - who turned out to be extremely friendly given that she was having to do everything.

This place is undermanned and the staff need a little bit of training.

Otherwise okay. It was value for money to hire the room - but the restaurant was a little pricey - but food okay.

Wanted to arrive a day before our cruise. Selected this hotel because of proximity to the cruise dock.
We found the (limited) staff very firendly and helpful.
Our room was very pleasant with a nice view.
It was very comfortable.
It is an easy walk to the large malls nearby.
Call for taxi was taken care of by the staff.
We had dinner there and it was surprisingly good for that kind of hotel.

We've now used this hotel twice for pre-cruise stays. It is very clean, comfortable and you can walk to the City Cruise Ship Terminal.
The staff is very friendly and the rooms are nice with A/C.
You have choices on dinner, but we have just eaten at the hotel which has very good food and not the rushed.

Room Tip: a room facing the city cruise port is perfect to see the cruise ship before you depart.

Booked in for a cruise stay park. Arrived and although busy check in was quick and cheery. Room was lovely and large and we had been told we were given room so we could see boat when we woke ...lovely. Breakfast was buffet plenty choice and cooked all piping hot set us up for the day. Nice to sit and wait for taxi and get a coffee or drink while doing so. I would definately recommend this hotel for either visiting southampton or cruising. The parking is in the hotel car park but it is great feels secure enough.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Southampton on 11 August 2013 in room 210 and it was as part of a holiday package by Paultons Park. The entire stay was a nightmare.

The hotel was a very averagely appointed one at best. However what really was in the mildest terms disgusting and pathetic is the manner in which the staff behaves there. We decided to eat at the hotel as it was a long day for the kids (a 9 & a 3yr old). It was the worst decision we could have made. there were perhaps 12 people including us there at the restaurant at about 8pm yet it took the better part of 40 minutes for our meal to arrive.

Time aside, my burger which I asked for to be cooked to a medium was completely obliterated and was STONE COLD. I quietly asked the restaurant supervisor to change it as it was indeed cold. 20 minutes later the chef arrived with my meal. he demanded I eat the burger in his presence and stood on my head with a probe to ensure he could stick it in in case I were to state any different. the guy was loud, obnoxious in his manner and rude to say the least. it left both my wife and some other guests around us completely astounded and feeling like some idiotic people who had dared to make a comment. THE BURGER was still well overcooked and unappetising looking as one could see the chef (if he was indeed one) had in his spite ensured the burger was hot by blasting it beyond human consumption. what a waste of a family evening

My wife walked out with the kids without finishing even a quarter of their meals. I felt so absolutely degraded and ashamed that we (especially our kids) had to go without food after a long day at Paultons Park. NEVER in my life have I ever encountered such a ridicule.

When I asked for the cheque and demanded to see the Restaurant manager/Duty manager the supervisor returned to my table and said,' the duty manager SENDS his apologies'. I could not believe my ears and nor could anyone else around us. Finally when I almost lost my cool and demanded the duty manager to show his face, he casually strolled over to the reception and could not offer any decent apology. the words used rang completely false as he said he had spoken to the chef and said the chef was apologetic. This when I could see the supervisor and the chef having a laugh probably at our expense. He had the audacity to offer to send some dessrt for the kids!!!!! Surely a family friendly hotel staff would know kids should get food first albeit the limited frozen packet food they do serve at the Holiday Inn Southampton.

it is absolutely unacceptable and disgusting to say the least that Holiday Inn chooses to employ such staff who could not care less probably thinking that a family such as ours in all probability would never return. Absolutely shameful and we are struggling to find decent enough harsh words to describe our dour experience.

The Holiday Inn perfectly managed to ruin our entire trip as we could barely eat any breakfast either given the looks we got from the other guests who walked in just as we sat down to eat. the shame of our experience just would not allow for it.

Moreover the General manager could find it in him to make an appearance even though he had been told about the incident according to the receptionist but called and left a message a couple of hours later whilst we were at the Park where we did not have any signal.

We have also written to Paultons park and will hope they do think about what companies they do choose to associate with.

Absolute NEVER go there with your family and DONOT DINE THERE.

Room Tip: The rooms are very noisy towards the front
