From the outside this place looks more like a very small sailors pub, used when shore leave means only a quick run to the nearest gin house. Inside is a whole different ball game. The bar is minute. The only reason this eatery gets only four stars instead of five, because the restaurant opens up into an much bigger atmospheric ambience with character in shed loads. The staff work hard for their tip and by 8pm the whole place is buzzin, including pleasant live background music. Now for the food. This is more than a hot dog as is the price but worth it. We enjoyed our celebratory meal very much and recommend it as one of the best places to eat in Southsea.

Wonderful atmosphere and superb food, Southsea's best kept secret. Choice of five starters and five mains, freshly cooked on the premises, generous portions and friendly service. A Saturday lunchtime, out of season, and not a vacant table to be seen. We will come again, and again.

The toppest of the top restaurants in Portsmouth & Southsea by far.
Had our wedding day meal in there recently and the food was absolutely fantastical, the venue did us proud on our special day. Great atmosphere, rustic and eclectic items throughout the whole restaurant for an added dimension.
Huge personal thanks to Jenny and Sab for making our wedding day so special. Everyone else I spoke to said that the food was fantastic as well. The other staff members were also great too. Excellent value for money as well :-)
A heartfelt thanks for making our day so special. The 'Millers'.

Came here for the 'Provence' wine tasting evening on Thursday. There was a set 4 course menu and a specially selected glass of wine with each.

The food was very tasty. We had goats cheese on a slice of toasted french bread on a bed of salad. Only criticism here is that the toasts were slightly too crunchy. The next course was a fish stew. Really tasty! For main we had rabbit with potatoes and vegetables. The meat was well seasoned and the sauce was very tasty with lots of flavour. Finally we ate a frangipani tart. Really tasty!

Overall an excellent evening. Service was slick with waiting staff being attentive but not overbearing. The place was packed out, and it's not difficult to see why!

I am confused as to why this little gem in Southsea is rated 66 on Trip Advisor. I have visited many of the reasturants that are voted above this one and can tell you this is definately worth a visit, and should be way up there in the ratings. This is simple well cooked delicious food, To a very good standard. I consider this exceptional value for money, the staff are perfect and cannot be faulted. They are not pretentious in any form or manner, but polite and attending to every need. Value for money I challenge any one to find better in Southsea for a lunch. You only have to see how busy it is to know just how good it is. I will be returning time after time.
