“Almost Faultless”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2013

A really lovely place to stay in Portsmouth/Southsea. We had booked for one night after arriving in on the Caen Ferry and didn't arrive at the hotel til 10pm. Nevertheless we got a lovely warm welcome and the duty manager organised nice fresh sandwiches and drinks for us in the lounge as we were ravenous! The whole hotel is stylish, quirky and luxurious. Our room, no.7, was spacious and wonderfully comfortable, though the rather industrial style storage pieces in there may not be to everyone's taste, we really enjoyed the ambiance the furnishings and the lovey comfortable bed.
Things didn't get off to a good start the next morning as our shower refused to provide any hot water and the toilet became blocked ( through no fault of our own,I hasten to add!). I know these things happen, though you wouldn't necessarily expect it in a hotel that's only been open for four months. Anyway, the managers response was swift and appropriate. Unable to fix it himself,he found us a recently vacated room to shower in, not ideal, but ok in the circumstances. Consequently we were down towards the end of breakfast serving and that, coupled with a new member of staff on duty, made the experience seem a bit patchy. The food, however was very good and all the staff were, as others have commented, very pleasant and enthusiastic. We would certainly stay here without hesitation when in the area again.

Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear about the water issues experienced but glad the staff were able to assist as best they could to ensure your overall stay was not affected. We really appreciate your understanding on this.

We hope you can revisit us again so we can have a Faultless review and ensure everything is perfect next time.

Kind regards

I attended the same hen do as Katie B, below. Again, the service was faultless. The staff went over and above the call of duty, and simply couldn't do enough for us the whole time we were there. Agreed to take our own bottles of bubbly and put them in the fridge for us for later, had no issues with us brining in a beauty therapist to do treatments for us in our room. We had the family room at the top which was sumptuous -as were most of the others as we had a wee peak while they were changing the beds.
Absolutely wonderful from start to finish. My wedding anniversary is coming up and I'm hoping to book us a room for the night for that -can't wait! :-)

When we booked the room Nick could not have been more helpful and responsive so first impression was great. On arrival the staff were so welcoming and willing to help which continued throughout the stay. Hotel is really funky with modern décor and the rooms are really cool too , the bed was a little too soft for us but that's just a personal preference! .We had a little wait for our table at breakfast as every guest arrived at the same time, but again the staff were without fault in handling the situation, we had complimentary coffee in the very relaxing lounge area for the inconvenience and kept in the loop on table time. I have stayed in many 5 star hotels all over the world and for the relative cost Number four would be in my top 5 . To the owners congratulations your product and more importantly your team are a genuine credit to you.

We stayed at Number Four while visiting family and it was the perfect base. The room was spacious, clean and beautifully presented and staff were careful to ensure that we were happy with our room allocation when we arrived The staff were very attentive yet unobtrusive throughout our stay. Breakfast was plentiful and cooked to perfection. We had a small family crisis whilst at dinner and the staff could not have been kinder or more sensitive and helpful. Dinner was excellent with a good menu choice and we were not rushed at all. We will definitely return

A group of us booked a few rooms at this hotel for my hen do and it was excellent! The staff provided absolutely faultless service despite random people turning up to join us gossiping in the rooms (including a beauty therapist!), putting our bubbly on ice, providing endless jugs of cold water, glasses, plates and cutlery, sorting out internet connections, and then providing a very tasty breakfast the following day. We felt spoilt rotten and can't wait to return!

My husband, was thrilled to bits by a very special birthday welcome - complimentary fizz and nibbles - upon arrival at Number Four. And that set the tone for the remainder of our stay in Number Four's beautiful top floor suite. I've stayed in a number of Mercer hotels while dashing in and out of Portsmouth, last to arrive, first to leave, and have always been made to feel most welcome despite my uncivilised hours. This was the first time I was able to enjoy their warm hospitality at a leisurely pace, all the better to savour the immaculate decor, luxurious toiletries, fabulously comfy bed...a super stay, and excellent value for money. Ellie and the girls, we'll be back soon!
