“Fantastic Gem near Southsea sea front”
Reviewed March 15, 2010

Myself and my girlfriend visited Southsea for the first time to visit my sister and her fiancee who live in the area. Not only were we fortunate enough to enjoy some fantastic sunny weather and lovely coastal walks over our weekend away but we also enjoyed a more then pleasant stay in the Florence Hotel which we'd booked on recomendation from my sister.

Although this small boutique hotel isn't along the sea front it is on the road parallel behind on a nice quiet residental road in what is a grand period building on a corner. We were given a very warm welcome by the hotel manager who apologised initially that he was unable to upgrade our room (something they try to do where possible for guests staying for 2 nights or more when there is availability) but instead offered us a complimentary bottle of wine which myself and Kate thoroughly needed after our train journey from busy London. He then gave us the option of two rooms with us choosing to opt for the smaller one with the better shower. The shower was indeed fantastic, new, powerful, clean and hot. Just what you need to kick start the day. The room was small but very cosy and very well and tastfully decorated in a typical boutique hotel style. We also had sky and the internet which was very useful too. The small on suite bathroom was more then adequate and clean with nice toiletries too. If there was one small negative it was that it was a little cold in the mornings as it lacked a radiator.

A complementary continental breakfast was included in our stay too which was lovely and more then adequate for us to kick start the day. It comprised of freash fruit and yogurt, variety of hi end museli's and cerials and a selection of toasted breads with an aray of fruit preserves. I also had the coissant which I could highly recommend.

All in all we had a brilliant stay and will definately be returning again when we go to visit my sister again in late summer.

Regards

Julian Perkin

For the price we paid I was over the moon with the hotel. Staff were very helpful and suggested a good evening out, organised a taxi both ways for us and did everything that we asked them too. Hotel was beautiful and would recommend it to anyone!

This hotel has it all. Great staff, great location, spotlessly clean rooms and yummy breakfast. Great value for money - we got a special deal when we called and asked for a three night stay. Free Wi-Fi and parking were a great addition.

Had previously stayed in sister place, didnt expect to be back in area so soon but managed to get a room last minute as this place, room was good size, very comfortable bed and the breakfast range really good, sometimes struggle with breakfasts as need to keep healthy but found huge range of fruit and salmon.
Staff were really helpful, had asked about a magazine shop nearby earlier in day and when i came back in after day out the manager had actually got it for me..not many places would do that!
Overall couldn't fault it, and will always come back.

Stayed here for a weekend in November with my boyfriend, and the weather was pretty miserable so it was really nice to come in to a really warm and cosy hotel with friendly staff.
Had a drink in the lounge while waiting for our room as we'd arrived a bit early and the open fire was on and it was just so relaxing!
The decor is amazing, found myself asking where they had bought everything, wanted to take most of home with me!
We had a lovely room on the first floor, a french provence style room, it was furnished beautifully and very comfortable, it was immaculately clean and the bathroom products were great.
Staff ordered us a taxi for a night out and gave us some good tips for places to go, we have been to Portsmouth before but locals always know the places to go!
Breakfast was lovely, and included in what we had paid, quite a good choice, breakfast was busy but it gave us a chance to read the papers in the lounge with a cuppa.
All in all, i will def be going there again, it was just the thing for a weekend away with my boyfriend, and it had lots of personal touches too, I'd like to thank Daniel, Michael and co for a brilliant stay!

Booked a room and informed hotel we would arrive at midday. Was told room would unlikely to be ready in time but certainly would by check in time. Arrived at 3:30 room not ready. I asked where we could get a coffee after a long drive and was told there wasn't anywhere in Southsea close by and was offered as a last resort a coffee in reception - welcoming not! Was told that as kitchen was being refurbished they were not offering evening meals - had I been told this when I rang to book I would not have made a reservation as we have a 1 year old daughter-misled. Salvation though they would let us order a take out and allow us to eat it in the dining area - wow thanks!! Only problem was they did not have any menus and could I order online? Luckily I had my phone with web access otherwise we wouldn't have been eating. Service at breakfast was great and the continental breakfast was fine. Final insult - can I pay for the bill by cash as some story about machine being slow. Seconds later bill paid using card. Overall a nice place but won't stay again as it is the little things that count and they were sadly lacking.
