Fantastic experience to step out on one of our most historic attractions. Quite a queue but moved pretty quickly and as it was included in our entry to the Victorian Market it was great value.

The tours of the Victory are timed so you must arrange that at the point of ticket buying. This is a very interesting and beautiful old ship that saw alot of action under Lord Nelson. It is brought to life by the excellent guide giving details of the battle at Trafalgar and the life and death of Nelson.Life was very tough on board when this ship sailed with over 800 crew.We hear about everyday life on board i.e. the food, work punishment etc
Highley recommended visit.

I'd visited this ship many years ago as a young Royal Marine but took my wife to see her for the 1st time. The masts are currently down for maintenance (the 1st time since 1945 I believe) but it is still a wonderful sight. See Admiral Lord Nelsons cabin (very posh) and compare it to the spaces the sailors had to sleep in. See where Nelson fell when he was shot and where he died on the deck below. You can go right to the bottom of the ship and learn about ballast i.e tons of shingle from the beach to weigh the ship down and to sink the barrels in to stop them rolling around. Some of the ladders (proper name on a ship) are very steep but I believe there is a disabled tour available. A very enjoyable tour which showed the terrible conditions the sailors endured and a real piece of British Naval History but get discounted tickets on google.

Book the timed guided tour which is the best way to really understand how rough life on board was for ordinary or "press-ganged" sailors of the time. Of course it was different for the officers but that was to be expected but both would have had to endure the primitive medical facilities!

I held a sparse knowledge of Nelson & Victory from my long ago school days.
In the course of 1 spellbinding hour our guide, Chris informed us in detail- at times gruesome on the life & goings on of the captain & life aboard. I thoroughly recommend the tours for all.
It is a beautifully kept ship & not to be missed when visiting Portsmouth
