Owner description: A proper old school antiques and collectables shop. Trying to fit as many interesting pieces into the floorspace as possible - around 10,000 so far. There is quite a focus on militaria and vintage toys but we try to cover as many areas as possible as the whim takes us. We aim to delight, stun, amuse and hopefully sell. We are always massively buying from the public too at fair prices. A lot of our stock is listed online and you can see it from links on the website. There is free public access to our shop in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

Whilst advertised as general antiques, this is mainly military items with quite a good range of toys as well. Lots of deactivated weapons which is quite unusual outside of the a dozen main dealers in the UK.

Something different and wasn't expecting it in the dockyard.

I recently went on an overseas trip with a focus on this particular dealer of military items, having been told that i could get a good deal, how wrong and disgusted i was.The prices are so unbelievable.I even saw items that i recognised purchased from other auctions(at market price)...and then for sale here at this antique centre inflated to over thousands of pounds markups...im glad i was turned down on an offer as i found the same item elsewhere later (in better condition) and 5 times cheaper....avoid this place and only use it as a reference point for antique examples..you are better the shop around and do your homework and let this dealer rip off the uneducated...quite a shame actually hope they sleep well at night...word will get around

I believe this is a totally fake review possibly written by a competitor. I have asked Tripadvisor to remove it.

My reasons for this are...

1. Firstly the reviewer says he is called Daniel from Italy. The correct Italian spelling would be Daniele or Danilo.
2. This is the only review they have written. If they go on 'overseas' buying trips, why no other reviews elsewhere for other shops visited or hotels used?
3. The grammar and spelling are clearly from a UK speaker, though not to a highly educated level. 'Rediculous' indeed, can't even spell the title correctly! 'im glad i was turned down on an offer', that's natural Estuary English (and nothing wrong with that) but its not Italian at all is it?
4. I have never advertised other than online. Who told you about me - substantiate your statements. I am not aware of any Italians who would even had heard of the shop, let alone promoted it.
5. I had very few militaria items at the time of this review above a couple of thousand pounds. These in the majority of cases would have come from private sources. Your suggestion of markups of "thousands of pounds" would therefore be impossible. Why did you not name the items and where you saw them at auction?
6. What did you find that was 5 times cheaper? Substantiate. Any serious reader of that statement would know that those margin simply do not exist when dealing with real militaria.

Andrew Bennett

This antique centre does not deliver what it advertises itself as, in so far as apart from the military items, there were only a scattering of other antique items (and not so antique items) and for what they were, the prices were sky high - probably good if you are a military buff but not for much else. I only inquired about one item priced at eighty pounds and asked what the best cash price was - to be told 'I could take £5 off'. Such a shame I was so looking forward to a spending spree.

I do not actually advertise, however...

Around 30% of our floor space is devoted to militaria though this area accounts for about 50% of our sales and that areas is growing the most rapidly particularly with museums.

70% of the floor area revolves around other areas of antiques and collectables.

To say there is a 'scattering' of other antiques is a bit of a fib by yourself. There are over 6,000 items on the shop floor across 100 cabinets. Of these 6000 about 0.5% are recent pieces - for example modern Moorcroft - the rest are of their period.
