Great trip round the historic harbour. As another has written shame we haven't got such a big fleet as there was. Still very interesting 45 minutes.

“Great Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

I have done these tours over and over. Last about 45 minutes around the harbour, with commentary provided and an open upper deck when weather permits. A must do only down point is the ever deminishing amount of Naval ships to vue and the increasing ones put out to grass in the middle of the harbour ready for scrap ! However go and do it if you have 45 minutes to spare well worth it.

“Portsmouth Harbour”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2012

I was travelling all over the place I was driving over 300 miles in one day..... I promised myself wherever I was at 12 noon I would stop and have a break. I was at Portsmouth on a beautiful sunny December day. Portsmouth harbour clearly would be a whole lot more fun in the summer season. However I thought it was charming.

“Must Do”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2012

This is a 'must do' activity if visiting the Historic Dockyard - the historic sites provide an interesting view of the past whilst the harbour tour brings the experience up to date with a view of the modern Navy.

“Take a Trip Around Portsmouth Harbour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2012

Anyone purchasing tickets to see the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard will have a trip around the dockyard included.
The museum opens at 10am, with the first boat tour running at 11am. Best to take the first one as later in the day the queues for the boat can become bigger. For the first hour there are plenty of other things to see and do.
Best place to sit on the boat is on the starboard (right hand side). The commentaries will always be for items on your right, not the left. If it's a good day try and get a seat on the top of the boat. On the lower deck there is room at the front of the boat, but there is a larger indoor area, great for bad weather but not if you want to take photos as you'll have to take them through windows.
The first part of the tour is alongside the various warships that are moored up and the docks. Next section is the area where the various imports come it, apparently there is a banana processing unit nearby. Afterwards the boat will return, and the commentary will tell you about the Gosport side, about Rat Island which took it's name from the eighteenth century when bodies were dumped there, but had to be cleared due to a fear of the plague returning.
Next the boat docks at Gunwharf Quay, so if you fancy getting off there to see the shops, get something to eat or going up Spinnaker Tower, you can. Otherwise you can stay on the boat and return to the Dockyard
