“Lovely Hotel”
Reviewed July 27, 2013

We stayed at the Pier for two nights mid-week. It is a very nice small hotel in an excellent position - 5 minutes from the sea-front, 10 from the University and about 15 minutes from Gunwharf Quays and the Spinnaker Tower (depending on how fast you walk). Gill is an excellent proprietor - friendly, helpful and she cooks a great breakfast. The home-made yoghurt is particularly good.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front face a main road - not too noisy at night, but traffic starts up in the morni...

Just returned home after a week staying with Gill at The Pier. As last time, everything was great! Fab breakfasts cooked to order just for you by a great cook! Gill is very welcoming and helpful. We needed to find a particular type of shop, she directed us straight there with no hastle. She always does whatever she can to make your stay wonderful. I look forward to going back again. Thanks Gill

We stayed at The Pier for one night, it's a charming, tastefully styled small B and B run by Gill, indeed we were sorry we weren't staying longer. Highly recommended for the warm welcome, comfortable accommodation, and the excellent breakfast. We would happily stay at The Pier on a future visit.

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for a 2 day tour of Portsmouth. We stayed for 1 night in The Pier, and what can I say. Our stay was truly enjoyable. Upon arrival, (eventhough we arrived early than normal check in time), Gill (the owner) checked to see if our rooms were ready, and showed us our room. The room was so vintage glam. The sheets were soft and heavenly. You really want to go and just lay in bed all day. Plus the rooms have a vanity mirror that just brings the room to life. She even offers tea upon arrival, though we had to decline it as we wanted to go and see portsmouth that day. She makes a great breakfast and even my french toast for my boyfriend. She's so sweet. Alas, I do have a quibble in this bed and breakfast, they really have a teeny tiny bathroom. It was a tiny shower and toilet. And it was sort of fiddly, we really had a hard time mixing the hot and cold water, so having a shower was quite tricky. Especially during the time we were there, during the much wintery March. Overall, despite the toilet/shower issues, we really had a good time. Staying at The Pier was a delightful experience. Full of old world charm and grace.

We enjoyed a wonderful three night stay at The Pier in late May. Gill greeted us warmly and offered us a cup of tea upon our arrival. The room overlooked the main street and was clearly the "best room in the house." It was very clean and finely detailed with freshly cut flowers. Breakfast was outstanding with cooked to order eggs and everything else you could ask for in a breakfast including the fresh home made yogurt . The Pier is located only minutes away from Brittany Ferries port and is a few minute walk to the ocean. A "must stay" in our book!

We booked two rooms for an overnight stay before going on a cruise and although we arrived 2 hours early we were welcomed and given a much needed cup of tea. Gill, the owner, allowed us to leave our luggage in one prepared room with advice about going into the town and also eating later. After a superb breakfast Gill allowed us to leave not only our luggage but also our friends staying at a different hotel!(7 people - lots of luggage) while we visited HMS Victory and HMS Warrior before joining our ship. Everything was very clean and attractive, bedrooms perfectly adequate for our purpose of a one night stay. We would certainly ring Gill first if we were to visit Portsmouth again -and we would love to- but would stay two or three days next time. Thanks Gill x
