“Never again!”
Reviewed February 16, 2014

pre booked a table for 6 for Sunday carvery.Found our table - nobody welcomed us or showed us to our seats. Bar was deep with people, only 2 staff working the bar and restaurant. On making it to the till found our choice of pud was sold out. Headed to the basement and collected an ok meal which consisted of chewy yorkshire pud, inedible crackling and cold soggy veg. They had also run out of sauces, gravy like water and no basics on the table such as salt/pepper. After completing the meal there was no one available to clear the table (staff advised they were too busy). After waiting what seemed like forever the pud finally came out but not after we had asked for it numerous times. I had by this time joined the long queue hoping to get a refund for the puds. We ate and ran and will never darken its doors again!

“Lacking”
Reviewed February 5, 2014

We booked a table for 4 but were told that the main restaurant was unavailable and were ushered to the basement which lacked any atmosphere. It was so cold I kept my coat on throughout the meal. We left without coffee of puds. Sooooo cold!! The food we had was good though.

“Very disappointing”
Reviewed February 4, 2014

Visited Portsmouth for my birthday and pre-booked our meals (Groupon) for Friday at Steki which I would highly recommend then Saturday The Jolly Sailor. We arrived to be told we had to eat in the basement as they had a private party in the main bar, It was very cold and no atmosphere. I asked if it would be possible to have some back ground music which the barmaid sorted. To be fair she was very nice. The meal choice very limited. We bought our Groupon Voucher for £17.00 and I do not feel we had a bargain. I would not visit here again and would not recommend it to anyone when there is so much better choices to make in Portsmouth. I hope the management read the comments listed on here and make some improvements. until they do please try Skeki Greek restaurant for fab food and service

“Glad we ignored the reviews”
Reviewed January 28, 2014

Went for the Carvery meal on 26 Jan - full of trepidation because somebody else had booked it, but I'd read recent reviews! All this on a really windy wet day. Needn't have worried. We were there around 12.30 and met by very pleasant staff, and seated by a window to watch the Southsea monsoon outside. We enjoyed all three courses, and the Carvery meat quantity was both generous - a large sample of each was provided with panache - and of good quality. Could have been a bit hotter. Jolly giant running the Carvery was a real welcoming presence, and it was good to see him take time to tutor his colleague constructively along the way. All staff were helpful and pleasant throughout.

OK, so we had to troop downstairs for the Carvery but it was hardly being sent down the mines!

Good experience all round, would go again, good value.
