“5 out of 5 for Fortitude Cottage / Spinnaker View”
Reviewed May 22, 2014

Warm friendly welcome upon arrival with useful tips for places to visit and quick routes to get there. Spacious (and very comfortable) double bedroom with spacious en suite bathroom (Room 5 ground floor, "Spinnaker View" building next door to main building). 15 minutes walk from the Spinnaker Tower. Spice Island ideal location - quiet , handy pubs, able to quietly view the passing sea traffic. Plenty of options for breakfast. Calm relaxing stay throughout my four days and nights. Definitely able to recommend to others

As the title says, this is one of the best b&b's i have ever stayed in.
Upon arrival we was greeted with a warm welcome by Mike. Plenty of information provided along with some helpful tips. We stayed for 2 nights and both mornings Maggie welcomed us in a happy and positive manner. The breakfast is fantastic! Nothing was too much trouble and the extra bits i requested on the cooked breakfast was not an issue. Was always asked if we wanted more toast or warm drinks. The service really is fantastic.
Location wise, you cannot complain! Loads to explore around the area of Old Portsmouth and your right in the middle of it here. I wish we had more time down there to explore further. The Spice Island pub is a stumble up the road and the food was good in there so you don't have to go far to find a decent meal and drink. Gunwharf Quays and Spinniker Tower is only a 10 to 15 minute walk away. This really is a perfect location as it is easy to access the attractions but not too close to the hustle so a great nice sleep is guaranteed.
The only reason i couldn't give this place 5 out of 5 stars was down to the room. Don't get me wrong, the room was cleaned daily and everything we used was topped up (once again, fantastic customer service). But we stayed in the twin room on the ground floor and not only was it way too small but it lacked character and the tv was too small. However! If, like us you are not spending much time there it is perfectly fine for a night. When we return to do some proper sight seeing and enjoy the great weather, we will stay here again but, we will instead pay for 2 rooms.
Thank you so much for such a pleasurable stay.

Not wishing to sound boring but another great review! We were lucky enough to get the penthouse. It is exceptional but I am sure all rooms have the same attention to detail. The hosts are friendly and attend to your every need, face to face and behind the scenes. They are professional and deserve every success. We heeded advise and dined at the Still and West. A table overlooking the harbour at sunset, combined with champagne and a perfect view from Fortitude Cottages roof terrace made for a most relaxing, enjoyable treat. Portsmouth had far more to offer than we had even hoped. Don't miss going up the Spinnaker Tower or the harbour tour.

Brilliant hotel with jaw-dropping views of the local area and harbour which is just a stones throw away from Fortitude Cottage (Penthouse Suite). From the very start Maggie and Mike welcomed us like a part of their family. Showed us around, gave us local area points of interest etc. Basically if your after a nice peaceful getaway, Fortitude is the place to be. Thanks guys for the complementary champagne an awesome service. Will million percent be back. TJ

Just spent 4 nights at Fortitude Cottage. Everything one wants in a good B&B is there; Good food, comfortable bed, spotless accomodation, free, convenient parking and friendly, cheerful owners. Views from the penthouse roof towards the Spinnaker Tower and the Isle of Wight are spectacular with binoculars available for those real close ups.
Car not really necessary as a bus stop 500 yards away will ensure you can get into the historic dockyard and a vast amount of shops within a few minutes on the frequent service.
Three local pubs provide a good selection of food and the whole area of Spice Island is of historic importance.

Room Tip: The Penthouse room has a smallish window overlooking the Spinnaker Tower and harbour whilst its roof...
