Me & my partner stayed at the beautiful fortitude cottage b&b recently & were amazed by the high standards provided. The rooms were clean & homely with everything we needed for our stay. The couple running the b&b were friendly & professional, making u feel right at home. We will definitely come back & recommend to others

We had a wonderful weekend at this B&B. Very friendly hosts, great breakfasts and the location is great with views of the harbour/Isle of WIght ferries.

We stayed in a Superior Double on the second floor, a luxurious huge room and bathroom with 2 big windows.

We will return!!

What makes this place great is Maggie and Mike, they are always friendly, always accommodating and always willing to help where and when they can.

My daughter and I stayed in one of the twin rooms up the stairs that did not have its own bathroom in the room. The bathroom itself was in the foyer, but we didn't mind as it was ours only to use and we had a key.

The room itself was small but as my daughter and I are close, we didn't mind sleeping really close together plus we were really only in the room the sleep, so it did not matter. Beds were comfortable and the pillows nice, clean and fresh sheets and lots on offer on the serving tray including biscuits and horlicks.

The bathroom was nice and quite big, the shower pressure was alright, and the toilet flushed really well. Bath towels were big and fluffy and the toiletries were lovely.

Breakfast as always was a treat with excellent cooked meals, plenty of cold cereals and fruit on offer and as much toast as you like and the view from the bay window was spectacular.

We will certainly stay here again when we visit Portsmouth.

Room Tip: Ask for the lower floors if you have trouble with narrow stairs.

Fortitude Cottage is 'everything it said on the tin' and more!
We were thrilled with not only our room (with a view), service, breakfast and facilities, lovely people, the location was superb! The close proximity of 2 great eating pubs was a real bonus as they overlooked the harbour. Would definitely recommend and stay here again. Old Portsmouth is a great place to stay, we didn't use the car in 3 days and the parking facilities was brilliant(opposite Fortitude Cottage) Cant recommend it enough!

Room Tip: We had the double room on 2nd floor front (with a view of part of the harbour. It was very quiet and...

The hosts Mike and Maggie were some of the nicest and easy-going B&B hosts we've ever met. They took great care to show us all the workings of the room (TV, safe, heating etc), gave us a map of the local area and highlighted some places to see and eat.

Room: We had the superior double room, which was on the top floor and had lovely big windows overlooking the harbour. They let lots of sunlight in during the day, while the blackout blinds kept it nice and dark at night. The room was immaculately clean, well-appointed, and had nice touches, like the biscuits and mint chocolates on the tea/coffee tray. Furnishings were luxurious. The only drawback was that the sound-proofing of the room we were in could have been better: noise from the street and the ferries coming and going made its way into the room at night.

Location: Great view over the Spinnaker Tower and the water's edge, and an easy walk to both Gunwharf Quays and Southsea, where there's a nice farmers' market on Sundays. Easy to find parking close by, and it's free.

Food: Excellent breakfast, with good coffee, and well-cooked 'full English'. Maggie was very attentive throughout and always checking we had everything we needed, bringing out extra toast and other additional things.

Overall a great location, wonderful hosts and superb food.

'Our second visit to Fortitude Cottage. Still can't work out where all the rooms are in this Tardis of a building! Our room was spotlessly clean, breakfast delicious, views of both the harbour and Gunwarf made even better by 2 days of sunshine. A perfect place to explore Old Portsmouth and only 15 mins walk to Gunwarf Quays. Owners provide a parking permit for the car park opposite - parked car when we arrived and didn't need it again until we left. Brilliant selection of pubs and bars within 5-10 mins walk. Mike and Maggie are lovely hosts - friendly and welcoming. 10/10 '

Room Tip: Do not be put off by rooms at the front - no noise heard from the ferry port or from people passing...

My husband and I had never been to Portsmouth so were reliant on internet reviews for finding somewhere to stay. Luckily, we found Fortitude Cottage which is in a prime location overlooking the quay and our room had views of Spinnaker Tower. It is just a 15-20 minute walk to Gunwharf Quays and other attractions.

The area is really lovely with plenty of historical buildings around.

The owners (Maggie and Mike) were incredibly friendly and helpful.

Plenty of on-street parking and the owners will give you a permit for this. Our room was lovely, incredibly clean, with an en-suite shower and the cooked breakfast was fantastic.

Whilst some may be worried about a B&B overlooking the quay where the Isle of Wight ferries come in and out of, the room was super quiet and we both had a fantastic night's sleep.

We will certainly be staying here again and recommending it to all our friends and family.

Room Tip: Room at front had quay views and an en-suite.
