We stayed here for one night on the way back from the Isle of Wight so that we could explore Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard. On-line booking via the B&B's website worked really well and Mike's reminder email seemed a good idea. Although we arrived early (11.30am) Mike welcomed us in and gave us good advice on where to eat and how to get around town. He even gave us a parking pass for the day we left so that we could spend more time looking around Portsmouth without worrying about moving our car.
Fortitude Cottage is within walking distance of anywhere on Portsmouth's seafront and its attractions and two minutes from the IoW ferry terminal. Room was excellent, seemed newly refurbished, clean and with air conditioning. The street outside is quiet except when the IoW ferry is in dock (and it does run during the night!). Our only slight grumble was that our breakfast eggs seemed to be microwaved which we don't like, but others may be happy with that.
Overall Mike and Maggie seem to be doing things right.
