Very good, you can see all of Portsmouth from there and it costs nothing! Daytime or nighttime it is worth a visit.

In many ways it is Portsdown Hill that makes the city unique, and is in many, many respects its least treasured asset - an it's free! It provides open space, walks, history and entertainment. The views are magnificent in all directions (beware of burger vans, flats and solar farm that are and will gradually erode this). A look at the ordnance survey map will show that you can stitch an interesting walk throughout its entire length. As you progress its length you cannot but fail to become aware of the huge brick forts that dominate the Hill's crest - two of the forts (Purbrook and Widley) provide a range of activities (equestrian, climbing, archery etc., etc.'). Finally there is Fort Nelson home of the Royal Armouries collection of heavy ordnance where you can see the biggest collection of the biggest guns preserved anywhere in the UK.

Portsdown Hill is a must for locals and visitors alike.

Drove up at night - sat in the car and watched Portsmouth at night. it was surprisingly busy on the hill on a cold December night, but a great way of seeing the City, especially if the tower is closed
