Nice place for a wonder on a sunny afternoon, or a warm summers night, very popular place in the summer for young families as well as the older generation,

“Want a Spectacular View ?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2013

Well pay this place a visit on a clear sunny day, you will realise why they built forts on it. Small car park if you can find a space, but well worth the effort. Drive off past Fort Southwick and check out the Centurion Tank Gate Gaurdian.

“First place to take visitors on their first trip to Portsmouth”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 17, 2013

We often go up the hill for the views and always bring visitors here to show them our lovely city. Clear Days help so you can point to the Isle Of Wight, Fawley refinery over passed that other place, Hayling Island etc and we usually visit Fort Nelson with new friends. Guy Faulkes night and New Year's eve is just fabulous up on the Hill. Churchilean nice for a pint and Mick's van for a burger ... what more d'ya want?

“Great family venture if you have kids around 10 years old”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2013

There are grass fields for picnics or a burger van visited by bikers and motor vehicle enthusiasts both with a great view of the city, both day and night. There is also a scenic pub that serves traditional pub food and drink.

Multiple castles along the hill make for great family outtings, especially for kids of around the age of 10 who will find the cannons and war machines interesting and inspire an interest into history. There are often reinactments held at the castle of battles from various ages and sometimes gun shows where they'll display various artillery and tanks of different periods. They'll also frequently demonstrate a cannon being fired which will really exite the younger teenagers. There are also tours which may not be as exciting, but very informative about the world wars and have a spooky factor for kids.

There is no fee to visit the hill and park, or to visit the pub (The Churchillian), but the castle does have a fee which may vary depending on relavent attractions being displayed. It's a great spot to witness fireworks on Guy Fawkes night if you don't have a specific venue to attend.

It's also interesting terrain for cyclists.

“A GOOD VISIT FOR ALL THE FAMILY”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013

We returned to see more of this fascinating fort having not allowed enough time previously. There is something for everyone and enough 'boys toys' to keep the boys young and young at heart amused for hours.
