Stayed here overnight whilst on business near Portsmouth.

Hotel is a good size and well decorated. Generally it is what you would expect if you are familiar with other Marriott hotels.

Staff were all friendly and helpful.

Hotel has a good sized bar with large TVs and a good restaurant which served a wide range of options for breakfast.

It includes a large indoor swimming pool which seemed to be open to the public and had a good selection of rooms and facilities for business events etc. There was ample car parking but remember to register you car number plate when you check in.

Rooms were clean and tidy and a reasonable size and include all usual amenities. WIFI was easy to connect to. As I had their loyalty card I got free access to this at good speed.

Gunwharf keys was around 20 minutes away by car in the morning at rush hour.

Room tip: Some rooms look out and some look inwards over the bar area. Specify if you have a preference for a view.

It's very evident this is an older Marriott as it shows. They have no executive lounge. The pool SPA area is no enclosed so the noise (and screaming children) are heard loudly in the adjacent restaurant / bar. The room was small and felt like a Courtyard. All in all, we enjoyed our stay but were disappointed as it did not live up to our Marriott expectations. We stay 75+ nights a year at various Marriott brands as Titanium Elite members. The staff was great and deserves and A+.

Dear billepierce,

Thank you for your review and i am pleased to read that the staff certainly made your stay and then some. We are extremely proud of the efforts of our team to make our guest's stays so memorable. The hotel itself did receive a full refurbishment in the guestrooms, which was completed last year in May. The feedback of the guestroom refurbishment has been extremely positive providing the hotel with the newest guestrooms in the city and larger than most compeititors.

Thank you again for your comments and we do hope to host you again the next time your travels bring you to the city.

Kindest regards

I don’t mind if the hotel is slightly older but what I will not accept is if it’s dirty. The lift normally gives it away, it looked like no one cleaned this one for a while. There were fingerprints on every mirror and I felt the sticky restaurant floor on the bottom of my shoes the very first night. I thought to myself - what would the kitchen be like..
What also struck me was the chlorine smell as you walk in from the outside. Only later did we realised that the indoor pool is within the main lobby area behind a small wall so you can also hear kids screaming and jumping in the water and while you are having your dinner, people walk by you in flip flops and dressing gowns. Awful. The whole set up is a joke since the restaurant is also a bar/lobby/breakfast venue/meeting venue. We waited 1 hour for our soup starter and further 45 min for main. We didn’t bother eating dinner there for the rest of our stay. The breakfast is also very poor for £160 a night. We were seated at the table were there was old food on the floor so asked to be moved. How come no one checks these things..?? Hotel is very tired and worn out especially downstairs. This is a 3 star hotel at a push.

Dear badincanka,

My sincerest apologies that your stay was not to your complete satisfaction. The points in your review have been passed onto th eteam and will be actioined where necessary. The design of the lobby is somewhat unique with the open plan, which is certainly a little different to conventional hotels but does provide some charm and indvividuality. Allow me to assure you tha tthe cleanliness of the hotel is one of our service pillars and my apologies that this was not shown during your stay with us. A lack of cleanliness is certainly not atypical of the hotel which can be seen in many customer reviews on this site.

Kindest regards

The bar area is nice & pleasant to be inn. Down side, at a wedding venue & with the hotel full, with americsn veterans, how could they have run out of Guiness. Really poor. The service was slow & poor. Asking for a spiced rum & having to tell them they've got the wrong bottle. Flat lemonade served. Come on, for such a big hotel, you need to do a lot better.

Dear chris b,

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments with us. My sincerest apologies for the issues which you encountered in the bar and the lack of some stock. The evening in question was extremely busy here in the hotel, however this does not condone slow service or some stock not being available. The team have looked into the occurence to ensure measures are in place to prevent this from hapening again in the future.

Kindest regards and again many thanks for your feedback.

We stayed here for 2 nights in April with our 2 year old. The rooms were very clean and spacious :) We decided to dine in the restaurant, we ordered a meal for our toddler and took the option of chocolate moose for dessert. I was shocked to see that the portion was adult size and it wasn't even moose but more of a chocolate gunk! We did speak to the restaurant manager at the time who apologised and said he wouldn't charge us for the meal even though kids eat free :/ Anyway the replacement chocolate moose was something rather different to the first one.
There is a decent size pool and breakfast was nice with a dedicated chef making fresh eggs. We would come back to this hotel :)
