Me and my friend have stayed at Portsmouth's Hotel Ibis twice now. The hotel is affordable, and reasonably well situated.
The hotel is modern, and clean, with friendly staff. However, the twin rooms are very cramped, and the bathroom doesn't feel very private. The bathroom is right next to the beds, and there is a fairly large gap underneath the door. The bathroom itself is also tiny!!! This makes it hard to get changed in there.
The beds are comfy, and the room has a tv. Breakfast is a little overpriced, although you can help yourselves to as much breakfast as you like, and there is plenty to choose from.
The hotel is a twenty minute walk away from the station, the Historic Dockywards, and Gunwharf Quays. There is also a little corner shop right next to the hotel.
All in all, Hotel Ibis in Portsmouth is a nice, comfortable little hotel, and for the price you pay, it's well worth the money.

I’ve stayed in a fair number of Ibis hotels. Four days before staying in this Ibis I’d stayed in one in Coimbra in Portugal, and the week after staying here I stayed at the Ibis in Brighton and from the comparison I would say the rooms are at least a third smaller (so not slightly as their website misleadingly claims) than a standard Ibis room and the bathroom was at best only a quarter the size of a standard Ibis bathroom.

Opening the (damaged) door to the room – the lock showed that at some point it had been forced open, so the door rattled in its frame – the first thing that strikes you is that the door makes contact with the back of the bed just as it reaches 90 degrees, leaving you a door wide passage between the end of the bed and the fitted shelving unit into the room.

The room itself was perfectly comfortable, as was the bed, it was just that everything was very cramped in, and a serious disappointment compared to other hotels in this chain.

Whilst the staff were all very friendly and helpful, there weren’t very many of them.

Breakfast was pleasant, but not as wide a selection as other Ibis hotels.

My real gripe with the hotel is their sharp practice in charging to look after bags (aparrantly this is now standard practice at all UK Ibis hotels?) after you have checked out.

The hotel is located very close to Portsmouth and Southsea station, which is good for the city centre, but quite a way from most of the tourist attractions down on the seafront at Southsea and in the historic harbour.

Sadly for Ibis another hotel chain that targets exactly the same market with equally comfortable beds doesn’t charge for luggage storage and in Portsmouth has a branch on the seafront at Southsea Common, so in future if I was down here I’d go Premier.

Positives
Comfortable bed
Friendly and helpful staff

Negatives
Misleading description of room size on website
Small room
Charges for storing luggage

Really handy for the ferry terminal and if booked in advance a good budget hotel, our rate was 28 pounds
Not good value if you were to turn up on the day, it was 70 pounds a night for the day we arrived, which was excessive.
Rooms are clean but small and the new beds are comfy.
Biggest downside for this hotel was the noisy rooms.
The corridors echoed, every conversation outside the room could be heard, this wasn't helped by the women who had a big drunken phone conversation at 3:30am with her mate up the corridor from our room!

My husband and I spent our first weekend in Portsmouth and stayed st the Ibis Portsmouth centre. The hotel was very clean and the room had all you needed. Cleanliness was very high. The bed was extremely comfortable and the breakfast was great with everything you could want made available to you. The staff were really pleasant and helpful. Definitely a hotel to return to.

Booked a double room for this weekend. Staff were very friendly and polite. The room was clean (although perhaps cleaning staff could be asked to wipe down walls - there were some tea stains on the wall in my room). I'm surprised about complaints about the size of the room, as I found my room quite spacious - plenty of room for my bags and to get ready. The bathroom was quite compact but it was very clean, which was crucial. Good facilities in the room and hotel - the ironing room was particularly useful as I forgot my travel iron! Hotel offers a secure car park - £7 for 24 hours which was pretty reasonable in my opinion. Special mention needed for the bed which was incredibly comfortable - one of the comfiest I have ever slept in.

Only downside is that the walls are quite thin and as a result, I was woken a couple of times during the night by some noisy guests returning after a night out.

Overall, a very good hotel and I would be likely to use it again when I next visit Portsmouth.
