Description: The Spice Island Inn is situated on The Point in Old Portsmouth with the most beautiful view across Portsmouth's busy harbour, Gunwharf Quays and the Spinnaker Tower. Originally 3 pubs that were converted into one in 1991. We are an exceptionally busy pub in the warmer summer months and if you want to have a leisurely drink and/or something to eat this is the place for you. We have 2 bars and tables in the upper bar can be reserved, there are a number of seats outside too which are very well used in the summer months. Some people believe Spice Island is a restaurant, but in reality it is a pub with a good food offering. Our speciality dish is hand battered fish & chips which is popular with many of our customers. We do hire out our upper bar for private functions and events. There is always at least 3 cask conditioned ales available, with guest ales making a regular appearance.

Really disappointed to read some of these reviews as we had a lovely visit. The team on shift were polite and fast with service, food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. Beautiful views and just an overall lovely evening.
Manager on shift was very good, helpful and polite.
The landlord is absolutely lovely! Real old school gent! Definetely recommend a visit to this pub. U may have to queue occasionally as it is alot busier during the summer time but to be expected with the location.

Been to Portsmouth a couple of times & normally eat at the Still and West - fancied a change this time. The pub is very well located. We sat upstairs with a great view of the Spinnaker Tower and the boats coming and going. Unfortunately this is the best this pub has going for it. There was a very long wait from ordering food to being served. I had the steak & ale pie - it was almost impossible to cut through the ridiculously thick and dry crust to find mostly air inside & around three pieces of meat is some very congealed gravy. The fresh vegetables looked like they’d been cooked 3 days ago in a school canteen. The triple cooked chips were fine but could not make up for the rest. He had the steak preferred medium but definitely on the rare side. The steak was very poor quality and full of bits of fat and gristle.

Had anyone come and asked how our meal was we would have told them but no-one bothered. Very poor service. We promptly left. Hopefully what was left on our plates will have spoken for itself.

We won’t go back.

Its a nice sunny evening on the south coast and Spice Island is the place to be....not if you want a drink!!!! Luckily we got in before the rush and had a lovely meal and the staff were great. Oh fancy another beer no chance!!!! Only in England do they form an orderly queue at the bar and if you break the queue rule you get sent to the back by the bar staff!!!! This not only loses the pub atmosphere but is very frustrating if you are already a paying customer!!!! Its 7.50 on a sunny Friday night in a prime location, music just about to start and only 3 bar staff and no atmosphere cos people are having to queue like they're at a supermarket check out!! Really Greene King you need to get this sorted.

My husband chose it for the patio, where we enjoyed drinks, then proceeded upstairs for dinner. I ordered an interesting flavored cider which came warm and very cloudy,,
ginger and rhubarb. turns out it was the last bit in the Box!!! and hence warm. I returned it for a cold draft cider which was fine.
The food is boring pub fare, so go for the atmosphere, the interior is quite nice, an updated pub decor, and the view.

This is our pub of choice when in old Portsmouth. Good reasonably priced food and a fair selection of beers with friendly staff. Views over the harbour are unbeatable. On our last visit a ukulele club were playing which for us added to the fun but if it wasn't your bag the pub is big enough that you could escape to the other side and hardly hear it. A good night out.
