Big fans of the Spice Island pub down on the Point in Old Portsmouth: superb location to watch the harbour traffic go by, and good pub grub with well kept beer. The staff are always friendly and helpful, both on the phone when booking a table beforehand and in the pub. Its a family favourite of ours, but prompted to write a review today as yesterday afternoon it was absolutely wedged down on the point as a sunny bank holiday Saturday afternoon with the Navy's new aircraft carrier sailing into port and a remembrance parade in the road outside.... and still the bar staff were all over it, working quickly through the large queue so that waiting time was fine (I had my 6 yr old with me and even his patience wasn't tried): none of the menu had run out and the food came out in good time and hot, and while being clearly run ragged by a long, busy afternoon every one of the staff was courteous, cheery and more than helpful (and very, very firm with anyone trying to jump the queue that apparently they hadn't seen snaking out the door!). Thanks to everyone working so hard yesterday, we had a lovely afternoon!
