Description: The Spice Island Inn is situated on The Point in Old Portsmouth with the most beautiful view across Portsmouth's busy harbour, Gunwharf Quays and the Spinnaker Tower. Originally 3 pubs that were converted into one in 1991. We are an exceptionally busy pub in the warmer summer months and if you want to have a leisurely drink and/or something to eat this is the place for you. We have 2 bars and tables in the upper bar can be reserved, there are a number of seats outside too which are very well used in the summer months. Some people believe Spice Island is a restaurant, but in reality it is a pub with a good food offering. Our speciality dish is hand battered fish & chips which is popular with many of our customers. We do hire out our upper bar for private functions and events. There is always at least 3 cask conditioned ales available, with guest ales making a regular appearance.

Big fans of the Spice Island pub down on the Point in Old Portsmouth: superb location to watch the harbour traffic go by, and good pub grub with well kept beer. The staff are always friendly and helpful, both on the phone when booking a table beforehand and in the pub. Its a family favourite of ours, but prompted to write a review today as yesterday afternoon it was absolutely wedged down on the point as a sunny bank holiday Saturday afternoon with the Navy's new aircraft carrier sailing into port and a remembrance parade in the road outside.... and still the bar staff were all over it, working quickly through the large queue so that waiting time was fine (I had my 6 yr old with me and even his patience wasn't tried): none of the menu had run out and the food came out in good time and hot, and while being clearly run ragged by a long, busy afternoon every one of the staff was courteous, cheery and more than helpful (and very, very firm with anyone trying to jump the queue that apparently they hadn't seen snaking out the door!). Thanks to everyone working so hard yesterday, we had a lovely afternoon!

Will never go back, the roast was awful, chicken was overcook and looked like a load of slop. Potatoes were rubbery, the carrots were hard and still had the tops on. Would not recommend at all.

Gino my dog and myself regularly visit here and absolutely love it every time.
The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them...
They always make a fuss of both of us giving Gino treats water and lots of fuss and attention. ...
Wish more pubs were like this one! Huge thank you to the Manager his lovely wife and staff from Gino and myself xx

Where do I start...The flat pints of beer we had to exchange twice.... The grubby table and floor throughout? Or the rude waitress with the attitude?

I’m actually going to start with the reputation this place has, its renowned as a great place to eat and spend some time observing the boats in and out of Portsmouth Harbour. If I’m honest i think that this place has outlived this its reputation.

The carrots with the pie meal were hard and inedible, the sausage with the starter platter were uncooked, and the service was outrageously slow.

The worst part to the whole experience was hearing the staff gloating about drinking after legal hours from drinks they accumulated over the night. Probably to the expense of the landlord, Im sure these comments would not be taken lightly if other people were listening, either in the pub trade or concerned with the Law.

All in all, I won’t be eating or recommending Spice Island to anyone, I will also put people straight when they say 'it’s a great place to go'

Please sort your staff out and quality of food.

Rocked up here middle of good Friday afternoon. Obviously it was heaving. Food ordering was hit and miss. Food came out in reasonable time, one meal was incorrect. Corrected very quickly. Views are amazing.
