If are in the Portsmouth area and are in need of a lovely dinner experience then you have to book Restaurant 27.

We arrived in Portsmouth fairly late into the evening and after walking around viewing various eat in/take away type outlets, we were starting to dispair of a decent evening meal.

Over to Trip Advisor to recommend Restaurant 27 and a quick phone call to check availability and we were in!

I cannot tell you how helpful the staff were. We called at 8:45 and were seated in the restaurant with a complimentary glass of champagne by 9:15. Delicious canapes followed to enjoy with our champagne and out dinner order was taken, all in the comfort of the bar area, before being transferred to our table where our drinks were waiting for us.

The meal itself was really lovely too. Fresh ingredients, all cooked to perfection and presented gorgeously.

I particularly enjoyed the steak and onion steamed pudding and creme brulee!! The pre-starter of white onion cream was amazing!

Great value for money too!

We have been lucky to eat in a number of lovely restaurants and I can quite happily say i would rather eat at Restaurant 27 than some of the Michelin starred restaurants we have been in.

A big thank-you to the staff and chef for making our evening in Portsmouth a very nice one!

We were taken here by family and we had a fantastic meal. The tastes were out of this world and the food was presented superbly.
The waiting staff were generally great, although the head waiter and the wine waiter were a little snobby.
I do have to question their approach to wine service... You choose the wine, they show you the bottle and then THEY take the wine away to taste it! I have eaten in some very expensive places, but have never seen this.
I think this is a little pretentious!
Go here for food you don't mind paying for... You will not be disappointed.
But keep the waiting staff in their place (well, the two who need it!)

Why this place doesnt have a michelin star ill never know. Food is outstanding, service is lovely but a little posh, however i think our waiter did break character a bit when he realised we wasnt posh! Nice wines, different beer, desserts that blow your mind.
Can be relatively expensive, 2 of us is usually about 60 per head, but this place is a treat, birthdays, valentines etc etc.

My husband and I went to Restaurant 27 for our wedding anniversary. The food and service were outstanding. It was a different dining experience from the norm as the diners had quite a lot of space and the covers totalled only about 30. More like private dining. Would recommend.

We ate here as a couple just before Christmas to celebrate a birthday. The cool welcome, where we were merely pointed over to a choice of tables, apparently due to a 'full bar', was not a promising start; I note that this has commented on by previous reviewers. The maitre' d seemed irked when we eventually asked for our order to be taken; but we had waited excessively long whilst larger groups were fussed over. The sommelier on the other hand was pleasant and attentive.
The food was superb, simply superb and not expensive for what it is so we considered it to be good value.
Perhaps the bar needs to be extended (or done away with completely?) if it can only seat half a dozen for pre-dinner drinks and they do need to attend to the warmth of welcome and attention; it's not just about the food!
