“Forget best 'Indians', this is THE best restaurant in Portsmouth”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2013

Been coming to Portsmouth for 20 years thanks to the current Mrs G's parents living here. In that time we're been to every restaurant and sampled most of the Indian takeaways as well. The indian takeaways tend towards the 'for English palette/from one pot base' formula, thankfully the Bombay Bay ain't like that!
First, the food is well prepared.
It is imaginatively presented(even as a take away) and quite simply delicious. One of the girls who works for me brings her Mum's Biriyani in every Froday and it is the best in the World....however,The Chef at the Bombay Bay will give Mrs Sharma a very good run for her money.
The staff are pleasant, attentive, always smile and have an intimate understanding of that old fashioned concept,- customer service. The location is out of this world, if the weather is good one can sit on the Terrace over looking the Marina which is what I just did with a large Cobra whilst waiting for our takeaway. If your taking someone special out this place will take an awful lot of beating, again in my opinion you won't find better on (or near) Portsea island.
IMO a great place to judge a restaurant are their loos, the Bombay bays are always spotless.
How often can you say that when
You go out?
All your favourites are here along with mussels, squid, swordfish and a few other not often seem on an Indian menu.
I live in London and have done the usual Benares, Chutney Mary thing and these guys are as good but at fraction of the price.
Do yourselves a favour people try these guys out you won't be disappointed.
Did I mention they're not expensive?

“Great lunch-time venue”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2013

We have eaten here several times in the evening and I am sure that any customer's would agree that the service and quality of food is excellent. It is always busy and we make sure we book ahead. However people need to experience this place for lunch on a good weather day. There are great deals on at lunchtime which offer the opportunity to to have a fabulous meal in a gorgeous setting at a very reasonable price. The upper level restaurant has ample outdoor seating on a decked area overlooking Southsea Marina. Listen to the breeze in the rigging of the boats while you sip your beer or wine, what could be better? There are sun umbrellas at the tables if required and you can just stop by for a drink if you like, and just watch the world go by. Even if the weather is bad the views from inside the restaurant are beautiful. There is a bus stop just across the road, serving Portsmouth and Southsea, so no need to worry about driving.

Visited after a long absence and we were very impressed with both the food and the service, the food I had was excellent and everybody else on the table (4) was also very pleased. Friendly and attentive service and reasonable prices. Would visit again.

“Very nice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2013

booked a table for 7:30 on a saturday night, and was seated straight away,
the decor of this restaurant is very nice and also the table were laid up a lot nicer than your average indian restaurant. free popadoms served along side our drinks, food was very tasty
and the garlic naan was the best i have ever had.
when we finished our meal we sat outside, then went into a small lounge area for coffee.
bill was £39 for 2 mains rice garlic bread, two pints and two liqueur coffees.

“An unexpected treat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2013

My partner and I went out for a meal with my son to celebrate his birthday so the restaurant was his choice. He had been once before about 2 years ago and remembered it serving some good seafood, if a little pricey.
I think it would be described as "Asian fusion". We all chose different seafood dishes and shared our starters. It was all delicious. We were a little disappointed with the deserts which seemed pretty average after such lovely main meals, but I look forward to returning as soon as we have an another celebration as an excuse!
