We stayed 3 nights Fri - Sun to attend a wedding and had a lovely time.

The hotel is in an excellent position, 2 mins walk to the historic dockyard and 5 mins walk to Gunwarf Quays.

The hotel is an historic building and retains a lot of its original features. We had booked a superior room and feel this is the key to staying at this hotel.

We were a little worried when walking to our room as the corridors were a bit shabby, but then we reached a door opened it to another corridor and it was like being in a different hotel. Our room was just lovely. Brand new furnishings and a spotless bathroom with double shower. Very easy to spend 3 days there.

The breakfast was buffet style and very nice.

All staff we met were very friendly and helpful.

We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Refurbished superior room is a must.

Just returned from a one night stay here. We had an awards do at the Victory to attend so picked this hotel for the location and I like the independence rather than a chain.
The hotel has a small indoor pool, steam room and hot tub for guests to use free of charge so we did for about an hour and a half and reception happily provided towels for us to use.
The room was spacious and modern in style with a large spotlessly clean bathroom with a shower large enough for 2!
We had a drink in the bar but didn't eat here as we slept in after a late night.
Parking was no problem we got a bay outside and they kindly let us leave our car there after we had checked out so we could go th Gunwharf shopping.

I simply cannot imagine which hotel some of these reviewers had booked into but it most definitely was not the Royal Maritime Club we stayed at. All I can imagine is they are trying to besmirch the hotel's reputation in some sort of perverse way. We found the hotel to be first class in every way. The staff were polite and helpful, even to the point of reserving us a disabled parking space close to the entrance, and when we took the car out during the week, again saved our space. Yes, the hotel is a bit of a warren of corridors and rooms, but it is a large building spread over several floors so what would you expect? We have been to far worse hotels for the distance from front door to bedroom. As regards food, we could not fault it in any way. One reviewer suggested the breakfast was 'RN style'. All I can say is, the Navy must eat well nowadays. Breakfast was buffet-style as many hotels offer these days, and consisted of up to nine items. This was in addition to croissants, toast, cereals and poached or boiled egg if you preferred. Spoiled for choice? Most definitely. The evening meal was three-course from a wide choice of dishes and if I had to make a negative comment, it would be that there were no hot puddings on offer. But so what, the gateaux, etc were all tempting and delicious. Such was the size of the portions I don't think I cleared my plate once, even when I chose chargrilled steak, chips and all the trimmings.
When we booked we asked for a wheelchair-friendly room but as none had a double-bed, we were instead offered a spacious family room which was fine. There was no extra charge for this either. No complaints whatsoever. Room service kept us fully stocked with tea, coffee, milk, etc but this hotel does not supply biscuits; so what.
Would we stop here again when visiting Portsmouth? We most definitely would and would thoroughly recommend it to others. It is easily accessible in a busy city being on the A3 road, close to the Dockyard with all of its amenities, Gunwharf shopping centre, the bus station and the ferries, and it has its own limited space car park. And of course, there is the hotel's own gym and health spa with a cosy little swimming pool.

I was expecting better after reading the Reviews to my husband. I have nothing good to say about this hotel. Nothing. Horrible. Cramped. Horrid little room. Noisy. NOISY!! NOISY!!! The miserable Receptionist was unwelcoming and unfriendly. A truly, truly horrible experience.

Room Tip: Why would anyone want to stay there.

Stayed here when visiting the Naval Dockyard just across the road. The club is a rabbit warren of a place that is a charity and in former times put up sailors returning to their ships. Its got lots of history but is a bit tatty and the breakfast is RN style! However good value and fine if you are visiting the Dockyard. Parking at the hotel is not good but there is a large NCP car park just yards away.

Great location, especially for Gunwharf and the Naval College and parking is easy, either on the forecourt or in the multi-storey opposite at half the daily rate, so a bargain for £5 for 24 hours. Everywhere walkable and a useful budgens directly opposite. We stayed in an updated room at the rear of the hotel, and even with the window wide open, we didn't hear a sound. Very comfy, large bed and bathroom. Breakfast the next morning was good. Smoked haddock, poached & boiled eggs, porridge cooked to order, or the usual full English, breads, cereals, yoghurts, juices. What we really enjoyed was the swimming pool (small) whirlpool and steam room all to ourselves in the basement. Also snooker tables available too. A real find this in Portsmouth. If you have any interest at all in things Navy you'll love this place and the price.

Room Tip: We had Room 112, an updated room at the back. Very quiet even though the club was full.

I liked the location of the hotel, walking distance to all the places I wanted to visit. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and cozy. I think some may find the room a bit small, but I liked the cozy factor. The breakfast buffet was also rather nice, with a large variety of good food. I highly recommend it and I would definitely visit again.
