“Great Location for Historic Dockyard”
Reviewed July 23, 2013

This hotel is well located to visit the Historic Dockyard (5 mins walk away) and Gunwharf Quays Outlet Centre (about 10 mins walk). Bedrooms alittle tired but Bar is airconditioned as is the restaurant. Staff very helpfull. It is worth checking their website to see if the "Special Dockyard Visit Deal" is available. We used it and got discount tickets for the Historic Dockyard. www.royalmaritimeclub.co.uk/‎

Room Tip: Rooms to the front are quite noisy from road traffic. Especially in hot weather when windows need t...

Above average 3 but not 4 rating. The location is excellent, morning walks along the port, and 5 mins from Portsmouth heritage dockyard, which is a must.parking has to be paid for but is reasonable, and just opposite the hotel. All in all a reasonable package, but not the wow factor.

Room Tip: superiors have been modernized and are adequate.

This is one of the first times we've been slightly let down by reviews on tripadvisor. We can not imagine that the other reviewers stayed in room 1-7 of the west wing. It's very basic with wall paper and paint from the ceiling peeling off, hardly any room for luggage and a smelly bathroom. It was also very hot on arrival and there's no airconditioning. The room reminds us of the cheap hostels we stayed in as youngsters. On the plus side, we were promptly offered a fan for the heat, the staff is extremely friendly , you get free parking space and the location is good for the historic dockyard and the shopping centre. If however you want to be close to Southsea than look for another place. Breakfast is standard for hotels and as continentals we do miss some cheese and maybe a croissant . We had really expected more for the price. We stay here for 4 nights and now slightly regret not having looked further than the reviews.

Staff very helpful and friendly - allowed us to park in staff car park, when the bay parking was full. Breakfast was excellent - lots of choice (toaster needs turning up though to get slightly darker toast); eggs were poached to perfection.
Ideal location for Gunwhart Quays, historic shipyard and just a ten minute walk into Portsmouth town centre - through the very pretty Victoria Park.
We stayed in a recently refurbished room on the first floor - extremely high standard and finish, very quite and peaceful and never heard the other guests - outstanding; would thoroughly recommend.

This was our second stay in Portsmouth and thought we would try this hotel. Would certainly go back to this hotel again. It is very well positioned. Right by the shipyard and sea front. Very near to the tower and the shops. We upgraded to the posher rooms and they were a very good standard. Lovely breakfasts all you could ever want and more. We had a drink in the bar before we went out, but by the time we got back it was closed. It does have a small spa so take swimwear if you have the time. Goood for Business, Couples, Families and friends and Solo.
Its not 5 star but clean and comfortable and not 5 star money.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the new redecorated rooms, we did

Stayed there twice, the hotel is in a very good location, within a walking distance from the train station, offers good facilities and excellent English breakfast, the price is very reasonable as well.

i attented this establishment for a workshop ... but whata a place staff so freindly and helpful so clean in all areas , bar was very resaonalble and opened till 11.30pm , food is of very high standard and plenty of it , liitle cafe in the middle which sells pies , pasties, hot and cold drinks , and toasted sandwiches and paninis , all variety of flavours.
Swimming pool and jacuzzi on site which made the place very cosy and warm pool and snooker table in the leisure centre, but the most surprising thing is you can purchase magazines and newspapers from reception and a good selection to , all staff very knowledgable , im local and used the venue just for a event i attended , but would throughly reccomend if u want t a place to stay for a short break or if you should a attend a function ie , birthday, etc.. they will go out of there way to help you and theres porters on hand to help with your luggage should you need the help

Room Tip: it faces a main road so try to plump for the back or the side
