“A great find in Portsmouth”
Reviewed February 24, 2014

I had heard good things about this restaurant, but never visited we turned up without booking on a Saturday and were lucky enough to get a table for 2 probably worth booking as it is only a small restaurant.

The atmosphere and staff were warm, friendly and attentive. Lovely to see the food being cooked on the open BBQ. We had a fabulous starter of meze mixed pita bread and dips followed by mains of Sea Bass and Moussaka both of which were delicious, price is also good, nice quality Turkish food, look forward to returning.

“Authentic and inviting...”
Reviewed February 14, 2014 via mobile

We decided to try this on Valentine's night. There is a charcoal grill as you enter and a guy was busy. We were quickly shown to a table by a most pleasant waitress who was proved herself to be both efficient and attentive. The chefs being Turkish made for the mark of authenticity.

We shared a starter of really giant king pawns that could well have been baby lobsters! There were olives in a sweet chilli sauce served with bread that looked like longitudinally sliced pitta.

For mains we had lamb moussaka and lamb shank. Both served with rice. Most enjoyable dishes. Large portions. Not pricey either.

For dessert I tried the figs and almonds in honey. Had it without cream and that may be why I felt it was not spectacular.

The only negative thing to say is that parking in that area was hard to find. We drove around and found a space going round for the second time. Not sure if this is a daily feature or only because it was Friday night as well as being Valentines'.

Overall, will be happy to come back. The food represented good value...

“Warm and Inviting”
Reviewed February 9, 2014

We decided to go to Nemrut for our wedding Anniversary. At first glance from outside it can be mistaken for a nice kebab take away shop as the first thing you see from the window is the huge stainless steel grill and a very hot man cooking behind it. On entering don't expect a posh restaurant, with upholstered seats etc.Its very authentic, you almost think you are on holiday having an evening out in Turkey, The waitress helped us choose some wine, which was not the most expensive on the list. She was also very helpful in recommending food on the menu. We chose the cold meze which was a selection of olives, dips and bread. Very delicious. We had a slow cooked lamb shank for our main dish, again it was to die for, meat falling off the bone. All I can say is its only a ten minute drive away for us so we have decided to go at least once a month to try all the other dishes on the menu. The prices are excellent, not expensive at all. They do the usual kebabs, all cooked on skewers served with salad if you want something light, All the main meals seemed to be around the £6 - £14 mark. The loos were very clean (a must for me ) . Its obviously family run and their were a couple of Turkish families with their kids in there eating which all added to the authenticity of the place. We went on a Friday night and it was full to the brim. They also do take away and deliver, the delivery man was in and out a fair few times collecting deliveries while we were there so i took a menu!!! well worth a visit, but booking is essential I would imagine!!!

“Really delicious Turkish food, with a great atmosphere”
Reviewed February 8, 2014

Nemrut just makes me happy - as a vegetarian, the choice is amazing and all the dishes are tasty and interesting, with lots of different flavour combinations. You can choose to have lots of smaller dishes and enjoy a multitude of different things, rather than just a starter/main, which I like (although 'smaller' is relative - you'll still get plenty of food!) The ingredients are good quality, the portions large, and everything arrives promptly and freshly cooked. The staff are really friendly here, and there's a great atmosphere - it's the kind of place where you don't feel rushed, you can have a few beers with your food, and it's quiet enough to come as a couple or with friends and have a relaxing, enjoyable meal. Thank you, Nemrut!

“Nemrut (Turkish - Mediterranean Restaurant)”
Reviewed February 8, 2014 via mobile

My visit to this Albert Road restaurant was pleasant. Staff were welcoming and friendly.

The meat served here is halal.

Whilst waiting for my order to be prepared I was given a free appetiser - moist bread with a tomato dip and green and black olives.

I ordered a traditional Turkish dish called Karniyarik; which is aubergine stuffed with savoury minced lamb, in a light tomato sauce. It was served with rice and natural yoghurt. This speciality dish was lovely.

The restaurant decor is very basic. There are no table cloths. Just plain mahogany coloured tables, with a simple vase with flowers and a candle.

There is a downside of this restaurant, as a kebab grill is within the dining area causing the room to become quite smoky.

At the end of my meal I was given 2 Turkish delight pieces.

The food was a little pricey but was delicious. I would visit this restaurant again to try out other traditional Turkish meals.
