This, or one of its sister hotels, must be the only place to stay when visiting Southsea and or Portsmouth. Beautifully furnished rooms, friendly staff and great location.
Personally I would get rid of the awful looking bar (which takes up too much space) and make the lounge more comfortable. Provide a drinks list for the guests but store the drinks elsewhere, and it will be perfect.

The other half booked this room and expected the room to be bigger, according to professional photos. We received a very lovely and very friendly welcome on a very warm day, making sure that our car had been parked in their private car park. We were shown to our room and given a brief and non-intrusive introduction to the hotel.
Comfy double bed with plush carpet which was pleasing to the eye on arrival. I would recommend that the cleaner/management pay VERY close attention to cleaning, especially underneath the bed......it wasn't pleasant. The decor was individual and modern (but not 'in your face') but some attention to the shower kick plate needed as this came right out when shower was used exposing pipe work etc. beneath. The boutique en-suite also had, in my opinion, a stupidly small sink which meant that face washing resulted in a very wet floor! Other half was also grateful he had a shave before we left!
Very well located to the town centre and the beach.
Breakfast choice was ample and freshly cooked. Recommend smoked salmon and scrambled egg - gorgeous! Compliments to the chef. Also available was a small bar; we didn't use this but it certainly seemed well stocked for its size.

We booked The Stattons Hotel for a relaxing weekend away. The Hotel was lovely, very luxurious and had everything you would expect for a boutique hotel! Our room was on the bottom floor and for me had the wow factor. The décor was lovely and you could instantly relax. Our room was spacious, clean and complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate were provided. The en-suite was very modern, clean and complimentary L’Occitane toiletries were provided. Free Wifi was also very useful!

The staff couldn't do enough for you! Portsmouth and the surrounding area was new to us however the gentleman who greeted us provided us with lots of useful information and directions so we could easily see the area. The hotel was in a perfect location and we walked to Portsmouth City Centre, Gunwharf Quays, Southsea town centre and Clarence Pier (Just to name a few places...).

The breakfast was lovely and you could tell it was all freshly prepared. Myself and my partner had "The Farmers Breakfast" and it definitely set us up for the day! The breakfast menu is full of variety so there is something for everyone! On our second morning we had to leave very early so the hotel prepared us breakfast to take with us which consisted of sandwiches, fruit juice and fruit! This was a very nice touch and we were very grateful!

The hotel has its own car park at the back... The road to get into it is very narrow but free parking was definitely a bonus!!

I would definitely recommend this hotel! :)

I have used the Stattons Hotel over the past year and it never fails to disappoint. The rooms are very clean and the staff very helpful. The breakfast continues that standard in the morning. The location is ideal for both business and pleasure.

We have stayed at this hotel for a number of years and always had a wonderful stay based on the quality of the hotel and the friendliness of the staff creating great atmosphere. The Hotel has been taken over by a chain and both the room standards have dropped and the overall feel of the hotel, it no longer gives that special 'boutique hotel' feel that we treasured before. In particular the beds don't seem as comfortable as previously. Room faults are treated as one would expect in a run of the mill hotel. However, the food remains excellent and the location is great. Overall, still a nice hotel but not as special as it was.

Room Tip: Rooms vary in size and quality a lot - check your room allocation when you book.

Mercer's 'Stattons' is a reasonably new establishment with high spec quality finishings. Once you get past the exterior it exudes luxury and is a perfect example of a 'boutique' hotel. Rooms were clean, ours was large and nicely decorated- as was the ensuite with a rainfall shower (though the tile grouting could do with being replaced). Complimentary toiletries were also very high quality (L'Occitaine). Bed was comfy too. Bar was well stocked and reasonably priced for the area. Staff were very helpful and attentive-the manager even cooks a wonderful breakfast the next morning (we had the scrambled eggs and bacon and the French roast with bacon and sausage). Preservatives such as jam, peanut butter, Nutella and maple syrup are a nice touch too with something to suit everybody. The hotel is in an ideal location, just set back from the main prom, opposite the Pyramids Swimming Centre. There is also a rear car park for the property, which is a bonus in that area. Did not eat at the restaurant at the opposite 'Florence House' but the menu looked varied and interesting, if not a little pricey- although that depends on the quality of the produce. I would recommend Stattons to anybody wishing to stay in Southsea.

Good place for a short stop over in Portsmouth within easy walking distance of the promenade with superb views of the Solent on a quiet road. Stylishly furnished town house with good parking. Bedroom, an executive double, was comfortable but small with no bath. Breakfast served in a very pleasant dining room but was disappointing; fresh fruit limited to bananas, scrambled eggs overcooked and bacon hard. The hotel's sister restaurant, The Kitchen offers ' fine dining'. Stylishly furnished dining room and nice outside seating area but food disappointing; overcooked scallops and underfilled filo pastry parcels. By walking a short distance you will find a selection of modestly priced restaurants and bars offering a range of cuisines.
Excellent base for visiting Portsmouth

Room Tip: Bedroom sizes seem highly variable from the hotel publicity. Worth checking details of room such as...
